My dogs toenails are black. The tips of them however are discolored most are reddish two are white (this is primarily only on her front paws). I used to think that she only chewed them when they were getting long becasue she didn't like the way it felt (it seemed once I cut them she wouldn't chew them for awahile). However I've noticed her doing it more often lately. Do dogs get any type of fungus on their toenails that would discolor and make her chew them. Should I be concerned? Are there any home remedies I could try, if something is wrong?

It's just her toenails. No skin problems anywhere else.

It is not uncommon for dogs to have different colored toe nails. When the nail is black you cannot see how far you can cut the nail. Cut it as far back as you feel comfortable and snip off more if you don't see the quick.

If in fact there is something wrong like fungus or bacteria the follow solution could help a lot.

Mix equal part apple cider vinegar(healing agent), rubbing alcohol (a drying agent),& water ( a delution).

Wash feet several times a day.

Some dogs just develop the habit of chewing on their nail. It is usually caused by bordom, some vets say that the dog is neurotic.

One of my dogs just licks and licks and licks his front feet and there is nothing wrong. It is just something to do. Sometimes he licks a raw spot and I have to doctor it but it is nothing to worry about.

Yes, they can get toenail fungus. And it's really not so great if they chew on that. Unfortunately, a lot of remedies that you find at the drugstore can be harmful to dogs if they get it in their mouths chewing their nails.

I'd give the veterinarian a call and ask what they think you should do. They may be able to suggest something from the store or call in a prescription to clear it up.

Is she chewing on her toenails or on the bottom of her pads? if it is her pads that could be a sign of food allergies. When dogs lick, or chew the tops of their feet it usually means airborne allergies while if they lick and chew on the bottoms of their feet it usually means food allgeries. So I would talk to your vet about switching food or if they have other suggetions. I know my German Shepard does nibble the tips of her nails if they get to long (she has to look good) and then once I clip them she leaves them alone. Well good luck.

I took him to 2 phases of obedience coaching so I skinny okay he used to be alternatively intelligent.Large breed puppies do larger has pets I think while they have got an outlet for his or her power and brains similar to with coaching sports. He used to be no longer the variety of puppy to get replaced so we have not had a puppy now for over nine years.
