A couple weeks ago, while driving down the road, I saw a kitten by the side of it, still moving it's head. We stopped and took him straight to the animal shelter.

After examining the baby, they told me that it showed no signs of being hit by a car -- its injuries were from being thrown OUT the window of a quickly moving vehicle. There was little hope, but they promised to do what they could.

The kitten will live, thanks to the on-site vet at the shelter. He has two broken paws, a shattered pelvis, and a fractured vertebrae in his back, along with numerous lesser injuries. He will come home with me next week, if he's well enough, the poor thing.

Why can't people at LEAST take their pet to a shelter, if they don't want it? Are they too ashamed to look into the eyes of a person there and tell them they don't want their pet? If so, why can't they at least set the poor thing down on the ground and give it a fighting chance? How can they live with themselves?

Yes, I'm going to keep the kitten. He is beautiful grey with blue eyes, and I lost my heart to him the day we found him. He turned and stared at me with those big eyes and quieted right down as if he knew I'd help him.

Hope my 16-year-old male cat gets along well with him -- they're going to have to learn to, because the baby is coming home to stay.

The shelter is giving him free veterinary care, shots, and neutering -- the whole process will only cost me $75 and they'll give me food for him for a whole year (which is good, because I'm far from rich and might not be otherwise able to afford extensive vet bills)

I find it incredibly difficult to have any kind thoughts for someone who would hurt an innocent creature for no possible good reason. In spite of feeling that all life is valuable, my gut reaction is that people like that should be put away someplace where they can do no harm. A person with a mind like that has nothing to contribute to the world except pain, and I don't care if they are loved by their parents, spouse and children. Lock 'em up, anyway!!!!
It is so incredibly fortunate that you came along in time to save him. I know that you will cherish him for the rest of what we hope will be a long, happy and healthy life. What are you going to name him? I would suggest "Hero", because he would certainly be my hero for surviving all his injuries.

This is the day after I wrote this. My little hero died last night. He'd had trouble since birth. He couldn't walk right, his head swayed from side to side and he was unable to jump. In spite of that, he triumphed over his disabilities and lived for 3 years before this last bout with illness. He, too, was a lovely gray, with gray eyes to match. I hope his indomitable spirit goes to help your baby to overcome his injuries.
Goodbye, Peanut, you were my hero.

I totally agree with you. Some people have no respect for living creatures. I am so glad you were in the right place at the right time, though, because now a caring soul will see this kitten that has been through so much and give it a wonderful home. You not only saved the poor kitten's life, but you also gave it a chance at a real life, not one roaming the streets. God Bless You!

I am so incredibly glad there are people like you in world who are there for animals and you stopped and picked him up. I hope your new family addition bring everyone some joy and the people who threw out the cat get their karma back 10-fold.
I had a cat 3 years ago then lost my place and couldn't keep him. I felt so bad about giving him up to the shelter but checked back a week later and was releived he was adopted by a family. At least I did the right thing he's happy.

Animals are forever.

I can't answer that question. I have 5 cats and a dog. Two cats were intentionally sought out and one of the others came from the vets before having to be given to a shelter and thus a death sentence (he was only a kitten but would attack anyone who got close. he was playing though, just roughly and fits right in now. ) one of the others was a kitten from female we brought home originally. I got the dog from a friend at work who was going to have to give her away. as long as I can provide for my kids and pets there is always room for one more.

That is so sad. My little baby (well she's 12 years old now and 12 lbs) was found in a similar situation on the side of the road with the rest of her litter. She and her sister were the only one's who made it. I love her so much and cant imagine how anyone could have ever hurt such a beautiful innocent animal. I hope that you, your old cat, and your new baby have a great life together knowing that you saved the new kitty's life!

PS Dont tell my kitty that happened to her. She would never believe that she wasnt born into the lap of luxury!

O my god that is heart breaking that anyone would even think about doing such a cruel thing. There are just cruel people in the world who have no heart or shame. It was a wonderful thing you did for that poor little kitten. It will be one of the best cats ever since it was saved and brought back to health. You should feel good for saving that kitten's life. It is so heart warming. :)

So people are just crue..... about a year and a half ago my cat got hit by a car and killed. The person that witnessed the cruel act said that the vehicle swerved to hit him.
some people just have no heart and think that it's a game to see how baddly they can hurt an animal

people are cruel...they don't accept responsibility. people also dump babies in the dumpster or kill them because they don't want them instead of taking them to the hospital, police station, firestation....there are SO many other options out there then to throw animals and children away...

i don't know why people are cruel (perhaps because punishments don't fit the crimes anymore, too many human rights people screaming, it's just an animal (yet people start out abusing animals and move on to people) and violence seems to be more acceptable these days). why is that? i don't know...if anyone ever hurt my cats, i'd be devestated and willing to hunt that person down and do something not so nice to them.

my cats mean the world to me. they are loving and a comfort in my life. i am so happy that you found the kitten and are taking him home. he is VERY lucky to have someone as wonderful as you. take care of yourself...i'm glad that there are people in the world out there like you!!

My two cats--Brutus and Luther--were dropped off on a rocky area by the bay when they were kittens. My friend who was visiting from Oregon just happened to find them when she was taking a walk. I hate that the people did such a terrible thing, and yet--I wouldn't have my darlings if they hadn't. Mixed feelings.

We've brought male kittens home twice and the big old neutered males love to play "uncle" with the newcomers.
