i had a little boy in my class one year (toddlers-- 12-24 month olds) and he had trouble with the 'tr' sound. it came out like an 'f'. so 'tr'uck became.......................... u got it! his mom said it was great fun when on the highway, with semis on both sides of the car. he would get excited, pointing and yelling 'big f*ck mommy, big f*ck!' we had a book of big trucks in the classroom that he loved to look at. it included a pic of a dump truck. well, his 'p' sound on that word sounded just like a 'b', so 'dumb'. put the two together, and 'dump truck' became........................u guessed it! 'dumb f*ck'. around x-mas time that year we told him to be sure to tell santa he wanted a big dump truck for christmas!

It's hilarious watching kids learn how to talk. He is 21 months, here are some of my favourite missed words:
Car - doop doop (comes from the sound a car horn makes)
Truck - tuck
Stuck - guck
Vroom - ummm
Milk - guk
That - dat
Tree - ti-ti
Light - diddle (?? no idea where this one came from!)
Cat - kiddy
S**t - Shat (ok, that one can be a little embarassing, he overheard his father one day and that was all it took. LOL)
Dora - Doh-do
Diego - Day-goo
LOL He is still figuring it all out. He talks alot and tends to make up his own words if he isn't sure how to pronounce a new word. Other than those ones, he pronounces everything else really well.
And I agree with an earlier answer, it will be a sad day when he CAN say everything right. Right now, I speak my sons language fluently, I would hate to lose that.

My 2 year old says pretty much everything the way everyone has listed here. But the absolute worst thing...I hate to even write it...but I have to. My son watches Thomas the Tank Engine...more like he's obsessed with Thomas..and one of the trains is named Percy. Well..my son loudly says, "I want P***Y" just about everywhere we go. He's not talking about a woman's genitals. He's talking about a train. But it's sooooooooo embarrassing. Sometimes it's, "Look ma..it's P***Y" and I just want to run and hide.
Oh well...we've been practicing saying Perrrrrrrrrrrcy so he remembers the "r" instead of doubling up on the "s" sound.
Kids are fun huh?

My daughter is turning 4 soon and is pretty good now at talking. We do however have one problem though. She has a hard time pronoucing the "cha" sound like "ch"ocolate and "ch"opper. Needless to say it is a complete nightmare if she spots "ch"alk in a store. Oh god, some of the looks I have received when she screams, "look mommy there's lots of "chalk." Oh boy!!!!!

I thought the question about "does it embarrass me?" Absolutely not. The important thing is that they are talking and communicating. Who cares what other people think? It's not like your kids are trying to offend. They will eventually say it right. So don't sweat the small stuff.
