I'm seriously stressed. I am in leadership at my local church and my pastor's wife has come to me with some problems. She has a genuine heart for what God wants from her, but she's got issues. Can I really be the person to lay it on the line for her and tell her where her sinful attitudes and actions are? Advice and directions are appreciated.

In a loving way it's the best thing you can do. Like the doctor informing the patient that he has cancer. It's an ugly job, but necessary so the person has the oppurtunity to do something about it. Do it in a way that's constructive not descrutive.

If your pastors wife came to you for your help, she must feel that she can confide in you. For this you are blessed. Pray and ask God to help you with this problem of her's.

It's not easy to be a pastor's wife or pastors child or even a pastor. The devil will work harder to derail them then if they were just regular church members.

You can sit quietly with her and together pray that the Lord removes the burdens from her and He will. As long as we Christians are working to move forward in our walk with the Lord, what ever we ask of Him according to His will for us, He shall give it to us. But make sure that you give Him all the glory for that blessing.

Matthew 21:22 And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

James 4:3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

In James 4:3 it means that if you are asking for something of God that is not what He would want for you,but for something selfish you will not get it.

So you want advice on giving advice? What does that suggest? Think about it: Do you really think it's your place to be laying out people faults and telling them what to do? Perhaps it is since she came to you with problems but maybe she just needs a sympathetic ear. I don't know the answer. Just keep in mind that interfering, holier-than-thou, busybodies sometimes do more harm than good.

Tell her to do what she wills and don't buy into the guilt trip. In the end, it will reduce her "sinful" behavior for the fact of natural resistance to rules is lifted.

It's kind of like the Prohibition effect: when Prohibition was repealed, alcohol use slightly rose, then fell considerably below levels where it had been when it was illegal.

She can have problems like anyone else can. AS a matter of fact; she may have more problems because she also hears the problem(s) of others, and has to be VERRRRY careful repeating them as they are probably told in confidence to (her husband and/or her).

Try to find someone else outside the congregation to consul her .

Tell her to go to a Christian councilor, not affiliated with your church. Don't tell anyone.

If she is overwhelming you, tell her that she needs to seek an objective, professional opinion.

All you can do is do your best. Whatever you can do to help, at least try.
