The ten commandments, I think, is the subject of your question.
The first 4 are telling you how you should treat God, i.e.,

You shall have no other gods
You shall not make for yourself an idol
You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God
Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy

The next 6 tell you how to treat other people, i.e.,

Honor your father and your mother
You shall not murder
You shall not commit adultery
You shall not steal
You shall not give false testimony
You shall not covet

My wonderment, then, is which of these is 'keeping a brotha down'.

sweet heart... if you where smart you'd know that He's only doing this for your own good. Besides, you have the freedom of will (which is priceless). Go ahead and have your autonomy... see where that gets you? I dare you.

God tells you not to do these things for the same reason I tell my grand daughter not to play near the road.
Because He loves you and doesn't want to see you hurt.

For 1 thing is the way you think. He created you to see, feel, hear, taste, and smell. All ofwhichis complex already that you can't even understand .But overstand this you didn't create God, God created you with Jesus in heaven saying this"AND GOD SAID, LETS MAKE MAN IN OUR IMAGE, AFTER OUR LIKENESS : AND LET THEM HAVE DOMINION OVER THE FISH OF THE SEA, AND OVER THE FOWL OF THE AIR, AND OVER THE CATTLE, AND OVER ALL THE EARTH, AND OVER EVERY CREEPING THING THAT CREEPETH UPON THE EARTH. SO GOD CREATED MAN IN HIS OWN IMAGE, IN THE IMAGE OF GOD CREATED HIM MALE AND FEMALE CREATED HE THEM. You can read this in the book of GENESIS CHAP. 1:26,27. HE GAVE YOU POWER OVER YOUR OWNSELF SUGGESTION USE IT!

Was God the first to tell you what not to do?

Of course not.

Your loving mother told you what not to do a multitude of times.

I bet!

He has told you what not to do, and you still do them. How can he give you authority if you can't even keep 10 simple commandments?

If there is a God, he is trying to control you for doing things that might hurt yourself.
