Possible this could bring home everyone sooner, rather that beating around the BUSH, go in with unrelenting FORCE and clean house, then leave a few there to help the IRAQI ARMY until they don't need it any more? if we pull out won't we create a breeding ground for Al Queda groups?

No.

Reinstating the draft will require that the entire US military be taken off-line for about 2 years.

Besides - all this is needed to increase the size of the military through volunteers is for Congress to grant permission to increase the size of the Army.

No. I do not think a draft is the way to go. Unfortunately, I personally know of at least 5 able bodied, young men, under the age of 30 that want to go into the military but cannot due to criminal convictions, most which occurred while they were still teens. I know 2 that have applied for pardons in the State of Delaware just to be able to go into the military only to be told that they are not "doing enough with their life" so far to be granted a pardon. I wouldn't suggest sending persons convicted of violent crimes, but we have more than enough people that want to volunteer to go but can't, to have to reinstitute a draft.

Hell no! did you do any thinking before even asking this question
how do drafting millions of reluctant malcontents help solve the problem am I missing something here. We can't just clean house because that would involve massive civilian casualties and the rest of the world liberals says that is a no no. So snap out of it is going to take time no matter how you look at it.

Throwing thousands more unwilling participants into this bloodbath isn't going to stop the Sunnis and Shi'a from murdering each other any faster than the current "strategery" of no change. Iraq is going to devolve further and further into civil war, no matter how many innocent American men and women we send over there.

Milton Freedman, the late economist, gave many reasons why a draft is counterproductive and unnecessary. Though written, as I recall, in the late '60s it is still apropos today. The draft is counterproductive and unnecessary. To re-institute it would be disasterous and moronic.

If this is what you think, why have you not joined the army as a volunteer, to go over there and clean house?

No, the all volunteer military ensures quality troops. Also we will not have the morale issue we did in Viet Nam. I and the men I served with WANTED to be there, and we were proud of it.
