Ok, I want to get a tattoo and need a little advice. I want something that symbolizes freedom, I just broke off my six year relationship with the biggest loser this city has to offer. Unfortunately I am tied down to him forever because we have a 4 year old daughter and I am 8 months pregnant with our son. Yes, I am waiting till after his birth to get my tattoo. Please give me ideas of tattoos and where it should go. Again think freedom- nothing rauunchy I am a mom now. Thanks guys!

Consider having b&w portrait tattoos done of your son and daughter's faces. Sounds to me like they're your strength, and your strength is your freedom. Just a suggestion. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Think of it YOURSELF. Look into the tattoo magazines, books, and other places to get ideas about what really strikes a chord with your inner self. Write down your ideas, put them together, modify them a hundred times, and finally decide on a design that you like.

What symbolizes freedom to you? What's important about freedom or your particular kind of freedom? What are you escaping from? What symbolizes your feelings? Is it an animal? A design? A plant or tree? A religious symbol? If you put thought into the work, you won't regret it later.

Then take your idea to a GOOD tattoo shop and/or ask around to find who does your kind of art the best. Take your time and do your homework. People that are good at portrait work may not be good at kanji, and people that do good open work might suck at Celtic knots, etc. Find the person you trust to adorn your body with EXACTLY what you want.

It will hurt, at first. After about 5-10 minutes, your endorphins kick in and it just feels "buzzy." And get a good idea of the cost. A palm-sized area in one color will take about an hour, depending on the level of detail. Most shops charge about $100/hour ballpark, so after you get the design down you can get an idea from there.

Always go a little bigger than you think you'd like, because most people always wish they had gone bigger, not the other way around. My last tat was probably a good 30% bigger than it was in my mind beforehand, and at first I was somewhat leery. But a couple months later I LOVE it, and it's the perfect size.

Even if your ilfe changes later, this will always be a part of your life and remind you of who you are, where you were, or who you want to become.

Maybe a bird in flight with your children's initials & birth dates.
Forget all these nay sayers that are answering. Liviticus is Old Testament and Jesus changed all those old Jewish laws with His new law... Love one another.
If you want it & you sound old enough to have made that decision, get it, you won't regret it (only the people who go in to get a tat and just get anything that have no meaning regret them). ~ Talk to the tattoo artist about design & placement before you get it, then get that art & symbol of freedom inked forever.
Peace ~ Good luck :o)

OK HERE IS MY SUGGESTIOSN. i THINK YOU SHOULD GET ON YOUR RIGHT SHOULDER BLADE ON THE BACK AREA, A BALD EAGLE WITH A BROEKN CHAIN ON HIS FOOT AS HE IS FLYING AWAY. A bald eagle alone simbalizes freedom but if you put a chain that has been broken on his ankle with him in flight it will give people a more in depth perspective of the bondage are being freed from. And no matter how many people tell you that a tattoo is wrong do what you want to do. When you die you will leave your body dehind and it won't matter anymore. I havea tattoo of a frog climbing up my back. the word frog means Fully Rely On God. This reminds me no matter how hard things gets to just rely on God and everything will be O.K. So get what ever tattoo you want. You can make anything symbolize freedom in your eyes. Good luck with it and congrats on the new baby coming, I have a new baby myself. he will be 11 weeks old tomorrow.

I can relate to the feeling of liberation that you obviously want to express through body art! Okay, start with what is meaningful to YOU: how do YOU define yourself? If you choose a generic symbol of freedom, it won't resonate with you the way it will if you choose something that represents freedom to you. Body art is all about self-expression, so the most meaningful symbol of freedom will be one that expresses what freedom means to you in particular. If you feel like a flower finally free to bloom--look for a floral design. If you're more like a bird with no-longer-clipped wings, look for a representative bird image. Or maybe you'd prefer something more abstract. For my "freedom" tattoo, I chose to have an original Celtic (important part of my heritage and self-image) design done that incorporated imagery to represent womanhood (feminist that I am) and the martial arts (which contributed to my liberation).

Where you put it depends on the size, social considerations, and the type of design. I have ink on my lower back and my upper thigh, and I'm about to get a 1/4 sleeve on one arm. Each design kinda picks its own best location, so work with what you want to do and pick the right location for that design. Just keep in mind that potential employers may look at you askance if you have a big tattoo in an obvious place.

By the way, I do NOT recommend getting any names or specific words tattooed on your body. (Imagine if you'd ever tattooed HIS name on you, how you'd feel now; at least if you'd tattooed an image that you associated with HIM on yourself, you could expand the design as your feelings for HIM evolved, or cover it up with a new design that better represented your life without HIM now). If you want to express something about your relationship (with kids, etc.) through body art, I'd suggest using imagery instead of names. Just my personal opinion.

Congratulations on your newfound freedom, best wishes for you and the kids, and good luck with your tattoo! :-)

the tattoo doesn't have to be something that literally means freedom. what means freedom to you? all of my tattoos mean something to me but not necessarily what other people may look at them and think about. i say go with something that will make you feel free. good luck with your baby!

You can get your children's names in a heart with 2 banners that shows your freedom without him beacuse his name isnt there or you can get a picture of a heart with wings flying that has a happy/smiley face in the inside.

It obviously has to be something you really want- but i would go with something like a butterfly or beautiful bird with its wings open- like its flying away. Just an idea...

Know one can tell you what to get. Its something that just jumps at you. Look around and see if you find something that beautiful and you can not stop thinking about it. That is what i did, and i love my tiger. And blow the first two answers.
