Remember that Christmas is not about buying things for everybody you know. It is a celebration of the birth of Christ. People understand that these have been hard times and your children come first. You shouldn't have to worry about anyone else. Have a Merry Christmas!!!

Your family will understand you not being able to buy them a ton of gifts. Theyre your family, after all. If youre really bothered by it why not do something small like make each person a personalized gift, or bake them cookies, etc. But I'm sure, that being your family, you being able to pay your bills off is more important than them getting that new dvd they wanted. also. Do you remember what everyone got you last year? For the most part we get super excited about gifts but as the time goes by, we dont remember who got us what. It wont be a big deal to them now and as time goes by they wont even remember that you werent able to blow all your money on them this year. Just be glad to be with your family. Gifts really are the least important part of all of it.

I know exactly how you feel. How about writing a Christmas letter to the family thanking them and expressing your love for them. You could also plan a dinner you can make for your family...m,ake up your own certificates and give them...this is especially great if you have someone who may eant childcare. If it si your grandparents, offer to come to their house and clean.
I am sure that your family knows you r situation and will understand, but there are ways of giving that do not cost anything but your time.
In my opionion, these are the best gifts anyway!!!

This year, I made tree ornaments for everyone. I live in a tropical climate, so I collected shells and hot glued some greenery and red 'berries' to it, along with a red ribbon. They look beautiful, and everyone has loved them. People collect ornaments, and they don't have to be expensive - so you can buy them, or make them. That way, they'll think of you each time they decorate the tree...just a thought. Good luck, and Merry Christmas!

If you can't let yourself get over it, then work with it. Go to the 99Cents Only store and buy everyone a $1.00 gift. You can make it gag gifts, or try to find something useful. You'd be surprised at what you'll find there.

You don't have a choice....learn to get past the gift thing. If people cannot understand you are having financial difficulties this year, that's too damn bad. Perhaps you should then consider choosing a better family or growing a bigger spine.

When you are unable to give a gift, give a card--make it yourself--and write a personal note inside. That is something that can be treasured for years!
