Like everyone said, the big chunky extremely noticeable highlights seem to be out. Yay! Highlights and lowlights that are subtle and compliment your hair are in because they add depth and character without taking the focus away from your face. Lets face it, when you see someone with those big chunky bold highlights, it was hard to notice the natural beauty of the person. Find ways to compliment your natural hair color by adding subtle, rich lowlights or highlights. Talk to your stylist to find out what route would look the best on you.

It depends on what color your going to highlight it with. Once this girl I knew got highlights and it looked awful because her hair was black and the highlights were blond!

Natural looking is always great. The tacky, tiger-stripe highlights are definately out.
I think that soft highlights that blend nicely with your haircolor as long as you don't let your roots grow out a lot before highlighting your hair again are really pretty.

I would say a more natural look is more in style. That does not mean no High lights. Jennifer Anistion for example has very subtle high lights. As for the chunky high and low lights I think that is all personal preferance. How bold do you want to be?

They will never go out. People just got out of the tacky black/white highlight craze. During the winter, dye/lowlight your hair a dark, rich, warm color and during the summer and spring, dye it a bright sunny color. But nothing too drastic.
