It's the argument that the concept of beauty implies a standard. Everyone agrees that a tree is a more beautiful thing then an earthquake or tsunami and such comparisons imply an objective verity by which to gauge. The implication is God.

Admit it, there is beauty in your examples. Imagine the physics and mathematics involved in a tornado, hurricane. Uranium is such a powerful tool. Volcanos give us insight to how the earth works. Disease, ..man, look at how virus/retro virus's work. It is like watching the sci-fi channel. It is all great. But Kansas...I don't know

I think your argument would be strengthened if you added that all "beauty" is seen or experienced through the human senses, which are interpreted by our brain, and that all of these tools have been crafted over the eons by genetic mutation and death.
People cite the beauty of nature as the proof of God's existence because it seems like a good argument - there really is beauty to be found all around us, even in desolate places, as well as the sky. It is also difficult to form a good argument against this claim, since it is nearly impossible to say that this world of ours isn't beautiful, so all arguments must deal with peripheral issues, such as the one I mentioned, or the ones you mentioned.

Sin...many do not know the seriousness of sin- it plays a BIG factor in this world. But yes it is OBVIOUS God created creation. Just as a building has a builder and painting has a painter---right? Well then Creation MUST have a creator!
And disasters were said to happen, in the Bible this is what was said will happen on the earth, all because of the fall of man, and sin....do you know how serious sin is? How we have all sinned against God? (See romans 3) It is only through Jesus Christ that we can be forgiven and cleansed...renewed and have heaven through Him. The wages of sin is death as Romans 6:23 says and that is after you die, there is a second death described in Revelations 19 ( I think it is, or chapter 18) And that is the lake of fire, which is hell. I would wish hell on no one, and I want everyone to know that we have salvation through JesuS Christ, but you only have one shot- this life you live- after that comes judgment.

Even as an atheist, I have to marvel at how perfectly the world works. Those terrible things you list are nature's way of population control. It's same in the wild when a population of herbivores gets too large, and they starve due to lack of food. Only the fittest survive ensuring a strong species. In a perfect ecosystem, which few are left, everything is in balance and is truly a circle. Kind of makes you wonder how it was all done.

The odd thing is, beauty is no more than what we define it to be. It's not that the tree is beautiful, it's that we decided this particular combination of molecules is pleasing to our eye.
Saying the "beauty of nature" proves God is to reverse the cause and effect.

HE IS THE CREATOR. Only a infinite being can create a finite thing. The calamities you describe are not from Him but he allows them to happen for a greater good. These calamities occur because of sin in the world, they are the cause. We know that sin abounds more and more in each generation there is a direct relationship in these times of ours of sin to chastisement of them. The greator good occurs in the worship of him during hardship and the charity which lies in the heart of man can flurish.
The problem is we do not get rid of sin after the disaster. If anything we blame Him but He is the furthest from any blame.

I was just saying this same thing to my mother, who's a born-again Catholic! I think believers are SO upset by those who have different beliefs (whether other theists or atheists) that they desperately search for ways to "prove" the existence of a god! They often finally admit, "Well, it makes ME feel better, than to think there's "nothing out there!" It's sad, really, that their happiness and sense of self are so fragile!
I, for one, am content to appreciate Nature and many other things, without ascribing any "Meaning" to it.

it has to do with creationism.
ill be flipping through the channels and come upon one of those christian channels, some show called "Creationscapes" will be on. its basically crappy new age music, hymns or some other juky music to scenes of nature.
its amusing because they simply believe that god created it and refuse to even go into detail on HOW he created it. sure Gary Larson showed us how he made snakes (HA!) but when it comes to nature they have no idea....so theyre basically saying "look at the pretty pictures....DONT THINK....just look....god did it....god did it ALL"
if you stare at it too long you might end up brainwashed...so be careful.
i agree with yourend statement too. nature proves that nature exists. nothing more.
