Absolutely. I left my 5 month old lab pup with the breeder for 2 months when my mum was very ill. I had only had her for about six weeks at the time. When I went to pick her up, she got so excited and started wagging her tail (heck, her whole body) as soon as she saw me. She ran to the car and jumped in as soon as I opened the door.

Depends on how old he is and for how long are you planing on leaving him? Most dogs and cats always remember whom they belong to if you loved them and cared for them in the right way..

it all depends on how mom takes care of him too.

If he's an adult, yes, certainly. If he's a puppy, he might not. Either way it may take a day or two to get used to having you around again :)

Hope that helps!
