Its funny you should ask this, my atheist friend and I were discussing this last night. I dont know why if someone is an atheist why they need to discuss it at length? You dont believe, fine... what is there to talk about? I dont believe in the FSM so I never discuss it. Let alone write books on it as though it would change the mind of a believer. Sometimes Athiests or more religious in their faith in NO GOD than Christians are in their faith IN God.

The reason that Atheists seem to obsess over the issue is the same reason they became Atheists in the first place: they are deeply concerned with issues relating to meaning, depth, etc, in life, and so even if they find an answer (ie Atheism), they still want to explore all the idea surrounding it. There is also a little of the Converts Itch in them, especially early on. Just like if someone else finds a new religion, or a new political philosophy, they want to share it with everyone, the same goes for an Atheist who has just found his or her new viewpoint.

So to actually answer your question, no you don't have to obsess over why God doesn't exist, but odds are that you will, at least to some extent. But what's the point in living life if we don't consider the bigger questions daily, even if the answers to them aren't so great? Otherwise we're just one out of six billion plus people rambling over the globe for our short little lifespans, with no cares about the questions our brains allow us to ask.

i am a 14 year old and a christian and i know more about my background as a christian than most atheists know about why they're atheists!! in my opinion... Most Atheists are stubborn and do obsess all day about why God's not real! To me Atheists are just saying! i don't believe in myself or God so i need some fake Story to prove my point!! they are just looking for something different or more in this world!! adn i don't blame them! the world has become a mess!! But we Christian's have had enough and it's getting old what Atheists keep shoving down our throats!! Do they seriouselly think that if they bug us enough about it we'll convert to Atheism? it's nuts! if you havn't already i strongly suggest you don't convert!!

I don't know what you think people will say, but I'm an atheist, and no, I don't spend ANY time "obsessing" about why I think God doesn't exist. It's just what I believe, based on empiricism. I still study religions, because they're part of culture, so they're influential. But that's not obsession, just curiosity.

Nope. Does being a Christian mean you have to obsess about why atheists are wrong all day?

I think the ones with the obsessions are simply the ones adopting the names without fully believing. They seek out others to convince so that they can convince themselves.

If I become a sheepish believer, do I HAVE to obsess all day about why Atheists think how they think, or should I just keep bending over?"

Apparently.

i guess if you choose to become an atheist you would have already obsessed whether God exists or not and came to a conclusion to become....

*drum roll

.....an ATHIEST!

The whole point of being atheist is to not think about him at all, or at least think about something that makes more sense.

Yes you should spend all your time talking about this God that doesn't exist.
