I like both huggies and pampers.. but I prefer pampers... I would say that they usually wear size 1 for a few months (2-3maybe) and the newborn size for a few weeks depending on the size of your baby. my son is 14 months and is still in size 4 each size usually lasts 3-4months but they usually go from size 1 to size 2 quicker then 2 -3 and 3-4 it all depends on how big baby is and how fast he grows.... also with pampers they have a gifts to grow program with each package of pampers diapers or wipes they have a code on them and you sign up on line and put in your code and they have a rewards cataloge that you can get stuff from by redeeming your points.
www.pampers.com
or for canadians www.pampers.ca
also if you sign up on line they will send you samples and coupons for diapers and wipes ext...
** huggies has two different kinds of diapers...huggies supreme with hug flex which is the good kind and huggies baby shaped-fit which I used only once and HATED!!! my son was leaking thru them and everything I would NEVER use them again..
Pampers also has a few different kinds Pampers swaddlers , pampers cruisers and pampers babydry
I have used all 3 of them and I dont have anything negative to say .. babydry is cheaper then the swaddlers and cruisers and they work just as well ..
both huggies and pampers have very informative websites that you can go on and read up on what each kind of diaper is all about and all of their other products like wipes and bath washes ext....

Pampers... swaddlers for a newborn, I would get 2 packages of the newborn and 2 packages of size one, that should carry you for a little while. My daughter stayed in newborn for a couple of weeks and then went up to size one but she was born at 6 lb 10 oz which a lot of people think is small. I wouldn't stock up more than that until you know how big your baby is and also remember that usually the hospital gives you a package too... they gave me like four or five things of formula and a few packages of diapers (this may have only been because I had to stay there for 4 days because of my c-section, but even so, they give you some)

When my son was an infant, Huggies worked perfectly. Once he was mobile, we had to switch to Pampers. By the time he was 10 months old we had discovered the Sam's brand diapers which are MUCH cheaper and are of the same quality as Pampers and Huggies Supremes. The only time he ever has a leak is if he had something to drink too close to bed time. (He's 27 mo)

You can't know until you try them. I hated Pamper's swaddlers, but you'll see a lot of people list them as their favorite (I like Huggies Supreme) I barely used the "newborn" size and went right to size 1 - they wear them for a while. The only ones that I wouldn't recommend are store brands - they truly suck!
Even though you're traveling cross country, I wouldn't go too nuts with supplies. Just like diapers, you will find you like different wipes, bottles, ointment, etc. In this day & age you can't swing a cat without hitting a Walmart or Target - you'll be able to reload on the way.
ps: for a long trip, skip onsies and little outfits. Buy some one-piece rompers...way easier and I think they're more comfortable on the umbilical cord stump.

I agree with most of the posters...Pampers Swaddlers! My firstborn had to wearing the "Preemie" size (even though she wasn't premature) for about 2 weeks before wearing the Newborn size. She weighed 6 lbs. 11 oz. and was 19" long at birth. My second child started off with Newborn size and weighed 8 lbs. 3 oz. and was 21". Within 2 weeks she was already in a size 1. Your OB or midwife might have an educated guess as to the baby's weight (mine were pretty accurate for both kids) so you might ask him or her. I'd suggest a pack of Newborn and a pack of size 1 just to be safe!

I liked swaddlers by pampers for newborns but after that I used Luvs. Cheaper but the same quality. As far as how fast it really depends on the baby. Mine was very small so she was in NB and size 1 forever. She wore 12 mths clothes at age 2. Now she's normal but she was just really tiny. My cousin's baby skipped NB all together because he was larger when he was born.

My family has 8 pound babies.... they cant fit into newborn diapers... lol. Weight isnt the only measurement, even a 7 pound baby might fit better in stage one, and not newborn diapers.
I wouldnt buy more than a couple weeks worth. Maybe two or three jumbo packs.
I have about 5 GIANT 105 ct huggies supreme stage one diaper boxes... I hear from friends that should be MORE than enough for that stage....
lol. Who knows.

Luvs!! They were the only diaper my son didn't leak with. Also alot cheaper than the other brands. It really depends on the child (how long they wear a certain size). Usually they don't wear size 1 too long though because of all the formula or breast milk.

Pampers Swadlers are the best for newborns, they actually fit! They make them up to size 2.
