There are dvd players that specified upconvert/upscale but others just say HDMI players. Do all of them do upconverting via HDMI?

Not necessarily. You will want to make sure the DVD player you're considering has ALL the features you will need.

If it doesn't say, it's never safe to assume any feature or spec in the electronic world. When you find a model that you like, look at the specs on the store shelf or on the manufactuer's web site. It will call out the upconverting as one of the key features.

get the ones that say they can, if not they can't but it is still cheap enouph to get the ones that upconvert, good luck

I cant wait until I can afford HD DVD or Blu-ray my self
