I need some help on how to make an upholstered headboard that attaches to the bed frame and not the wall.

I have looked online but almost all of them attach to the wall. I want to use 2" think foam, covered in batting, and then fabric.

Would I need to make some legs and cover them in fabric too?

What I would do is to make the type that attaches to the wall but before doing the upholstery attach a couple of 4x4 boards that would reach from the floor to about half way up the headboard. These boards would have to be spaced so they would line up with the brackets on the frame. Paint or stain the legs and drill bolt holes to attach it to the frame.

I've never seen this done but have an idea! You can create the headboard and purchase pegs that will go into holes on the frame that you can drill out and in the headboard as well. Try it out and let me know!
