Sure! If there was a grass-roots rebellion to get rid of Saddam, that would've created a sense of nationalism amonst Iraqis.

As it is, though, I'm not sure. I'm leaning towards no.

I see it as a grotesque policing problem. Iraq needs massive policing, so that those extreme bad guys will quit killing, so that the Iraqi people can then calmly build their new nation. If that requires the US to patrol them in large force for a while, fine.

Bush has said all along it would be a hard fight and a long fight. Iraq is just one battle in the war on terror.

Close the border to Iran and Syria. Then the terrorists who come in and cause problems will no longer be able to. This will end the false civil war rhetoric by liberals.

The problems are only in a small part of the country, primarily in the Sunni areas

I don't think a strong sense of nationalism as in the West can be, in less than decades, but a degree of trust and common interest can be in enough to do for the shorter term.

It can't. We cannot force these people to do something they are not ready or capable to do. Not one of the middle east arab countries is ready for anykind of rule by the people. Culturally they are not ready.

show them an enemy who is going to hurt them all...
i dunno maybe iran..? but usually people need an enemy to feel part of a bigger group, such as a nation to protect the national interests and stuff
