In my understanding, atheism is the denunciation of God and therefore of soul.
so I was just curious on how it felt like to be believing that youre gonna be gone for good. and everything you did ...gone for good...

no offense meant

What is it like to know that you're going to lose free will as you spend eternity in heaven?

Even if you believe in God and think you're going to heaven, God has ruled that heaven is a perfect place. It will have none of the crime or problems of our world; and since we know crime is a result of free will, heaven will have no free will. It will basically be everyone just doing everything god wants, forever.

And for the record, I don't 'believe that there is no soul'. You believe that there is a soul. Lacking any evidence, I make no claim as to a soul's existence, but logically assume it's non-existence, along with the non-existence of everything else that hasn't been proven. Do you logically assume the Tooth Fairy doesn't exist, or do you, unable to prove it's non-existence, believe in the Tooth Fairy?

Just think of it this way and it's not so bad. Being dead is exactly like it was before you were born. It wasn't good or bad, it was just nothing. If everyone were an Atheist and believed that when you died it was over, humans would definitely work harder to find ways of extending life instead of just accepting death. It's obvious that life could be extended indefinitely, but that we just don't know how to do it yet. People who believe in religions keep us from attaining REAL eternal life (or at least very extended lifetimes).

At first the thought was a little scary because I'd been taught I would get to live forever as a child. Who doesn't wanna survive their own death?

But *wanting* something to be true, really really badly, doesn't make it true. So you just get on making your life count and enjoying it. Try to make a difference in the lives of the people you love.

As I have never really believed in an afterlife, I can just say I am used to the thought.

Your understanding of atheism is wrong-what you stated is your subjective opinion of what you'd like to believe atheism was.

I'm not going to be "destroyed". I will return to the cosmos as energy, regardless of your gods say.

I think you seem to forget that once you are in a grave, you will be rotting and full of maggots like the rest of us.
