In most countries in the world there is a speed limit on motorways, so why do people need big cars, they can't go any faster. Why can't all cars be 1 litre cars. I find it selfish and just an Ego trip when the world is in such trouble.

Yesagroevilc, life is for living. How does it help your quality of life though having a bigger car except stoking up your ego. I'd rather my grandchildren saw a polar bear than a 4*4 in a museum.

Environmentally friendlier cars can be more exciting than infernal combustion - but don't expect our "motoring" media or corporate interests to tell you that.
see http://search.bbc.co.uk/cgi-bin/search/results.pl?q=lotus+electric,
eg the Lexus in Minority Report was a real working car, but Lexus don't like to admit it, compared to BMWs used in Bond movies
or that top gear stunt in a 250mph jet dragster, when there Bluebird should do 350-400mph if they can get sponsors
http://www.speedace.info/bluebird_electric_3.htm
or watch film who killed the electric car www.whokilledtheelectriccar.com
and modern batteries can have a 20 year life, be fully recylable, recharge in 10 minutes ...
Why can't we have these,
Regardless of environmental impact it is much more fun, and more pleasent, and cheaper driving an electric vehicle than sitting in smelly, noisy high maintenance fossils we have been conned into putting up with.

Heat waves huh? Banning cars and SUV would stop the heatwave? That is interesting but completey wrong. People will buy what they want and the car manufacturers realize this. If you want mass unemployment or job losses because the car manufacturers leave to build cars elsewhere keep pushing this silly agenda. Most people died because of a lack of air conditioning last time I checked. We in the US have that wonderful invention in mass in allmost every house and car so we will be fine. Europe has the problem so buy a air conditioner and you will live. Temps in the 80-90s are not that hot and people in Africa have lived in those temps for ever and they do just fine. Maybe the people in Europe are just weak and frail. Toughen up some and drink more water.

Well, given that it is *far* from a proven fact that rising CO2 levels are causing the global warming the world is currently experiencing, I would have to say no.
Shouldn't we take the time to be *sure* about what is going on before we start making knee-jerk reactions?
There is an awful lot of scare-mongering going on about global warming. Take "Cpwnin O", above, who said "no its to late nothing we do now will stop waterworld from happeneng." (Sic) In fact, sea levels are rising by about 1 inch every 15 years, so by the end of the century we might see a rise of about 6 inches. I'd hardly call that "Water world"!
Don't believe the hype. We, and the Earth, will be fine, even if we allow the rich to drive their "gas guzzlers" if they want to.

No. It would be an unwarranted restriction on human rights and probably wouldn't help that much anyway, because cars are not the major cause of global warming. There are trucks, trains, ships, airplanes, factories, steel mills, generating plants and so on. Passenger cars are a comparatively small part of the problem.

Two weeks ago the United Nations release a revised estimate of the effects of global warming. Among other points was this: Cattle (cows to you city slickers) release about 25% of all greenhouse gases mostly in the form of methane. This is about six times the amount belched out by SUVs. So, following your logic we should kill all the cows, right?
The world, by the way, is not in trouble from global warming.

Point ONE! There is no proven like between Co2 emission and global warming
Point TWO! Just one of the many underground coal fires caused by crap mining in China produces more Co2 than all the cars in the UK combined.
Point Three! well there isn't one, just think a little before jumping on the green bandwagon

You are right Jono.
It is selfish and a massive ego trip on the part of some people that have more money than sense.
There is no need for especially town dwellers to have massive motor capacity ,with the state of the environment as it is today.
We are slowly killing ourselves because of these attitudes.

i think there should be regulations on their emissions and mpg ratings. honda is a great role model in this regard. people want fast cars and suvs? fine lets make them but lets set some standards to abide by. our country sucks when compared to the rest of the world. why is that? why are we so against this, i think, positive change? americans are all about do what you wanna do unless it offends somebody else. well, we're offending the whole world, we should do something about it. i personally am ashamed by the global conception of the "average american". that's not me man!!
what you want is not always what's best for you.

Lets all conform shall we, lets all buy horrible cars like 'A little Fiesta'
The we can all travel in one line at the same speed along a motorway or perhaps we could use a windmill with wheels on it and that perhaps could Tow a line of cars.
Or even perhaps we could all travel in a bus with a load of drunken yobs (nice)
Get real you left wing twit !
Life is for living, there is more pollution from one vol canoe explosion than all the cars in England's pollution for 1 year.
BUY A BIKE and belt up.
