No, there is nothing I need to confess. I am just interested in the differences between religious laws and state/national laws.

There is nothing in the Bible that states that marrying a cousin is wrong. At that time it was prefered to marry within the extended family.

Ge 24:37 And my master made me swear an oath, and said, ‘You must not get a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I live,
Ge 24:38 but go to my father’s family and to my own clan, and get a wife for my son.’
Ge 24:39 “Then I asked my master, ‘What if the woman will not come back with me?’
Ge 24:40 “He replied, ‘The LORD, before whom I have walked,
will send his angel with you and make your journey a success, so that you can get a wife for my son from my own clan and from my father’s family.

Leviticus 18:6-18 covers incest prohibitions, but it doesn't talk about cousins. Relations with cousins is not generally considered incest (in that it is not prohibited by law throughout most of the world, nor in fact in most of the US). In fact, in cultures with strong tribal or family lines, it is often the preferred form of marriage.

In leviticus and repeated in Deuteronomy are a list of prohibited relationships and not all prohibited relationships are incestuous. In either case, cousins, generally, are not prohibited to each other nor does it fall into the category of incest by any standard. Many believe, however, that first cousin, ie the children of siblings, should not marry because the relationship is too close...but even there, it is not incest.

What the Bible says about Incest

Lot was a just and righteous man.

2 Peter 2:7-8
He was the only man that God saved from the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah.

Genesis 19:15
He got drunk and impregnated his virgin daughters.
Genesis 19:32-36

Yet elsewhere incest is condemned.

None of you shall approach to any that is near of kin to him, to uncover their nakedness. Leviticus 18:6

And, at least in some cases, is punishable by death.

And the man that lieth with his father's wife hath uncovered his father's nakedness: both of them shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them. Leviticus 20:11
And if a man lie with his daughter in law, both of them shall surely be put to death: they have wrought confusion; their blood shall be upon them. Leviticus 20:12

And if a man take a wife and her mother, it is wickedness: they shall be burnt with fire, both he and they; that there be no wickedness among you. -- Leviticus 20:14

Go figure.

What is Incest? it's sexual intercourse between two persons to closely related to marry and why is it discouraged? to stop in breeding. In breeding degenerates the stock. Look at some of those reclusive religious sects they don't look as if they have got all of their marbles do they?.
