The best way to go about house breaking any dog is by crate training. This will only work if you yourself can stick to the training and not give up:
He needs to be kept in a kennel of the appropriate size; not to big, because if it is he can pee in the back of the kennel and still be able to lay down, but at the same time you want it to be big enough for him to sit, stand on all fours, lay-down, turn around. If you already have this then that is wonderful...
Now here is the harder part- he isn't allowed to be out of the crate unsupervized. Take him out to go to the bathroom every 2 to 3 hours, and 20minutes after each meal (even treats), and after play time give him the chance to go potty to, even if you played out side. Anytime he is not being watched closely, and isn't eating, playing, or out side he must be in the kennel. Don't forget to take him to the same place each time to pee, and try to make a schedule for him, so that he can know what is expected at what times each day. If you want more help and information on training just send me a message or email me and I will get back to you... miz_ndpendent25@yahoo.com Good luck! ~ Sierra

First confine the dog to a space that is cleanable like a bathroom with newspaper of puppy or puppy pads. Clean the stops with a dog order solution because dogs can smell 10 more than us. When you feed a dog take them outside with a word you want them to go.Do this within 1hour to 2hour each and every time. At 4 months it time the dog will understand what is going on. Feed small amount 3 times a day at this age. Use a create when you are not home is very important also. Cathy

You need to start by crate training the dog. He is only allowed out of crate AFTER he has pooped outside or if you are certain that he doesn't need to go. Most dogs are pretty regular about when they go, so start paying attention to his bathroom habits and when he needs to go outside.

The basics of potty training your dog are to:

1. Create a schedule of when the dog gets to go outside so they know what to expect
2. Praise the dog and optionally provide the dog a treat whenever they do actually go outside

You need to crate train him. Put him in the crate and unless you are going to be watching him very carefully he is either outside to go to the bathroom or in his crate. It has worked with all 7 of my dogs.

Don't let him come inside until he has pooped, even if you have to leave him out for awhilw. Eventually he will learn he has to go outside.

i might do what exquisite bruin two says, condo educate it... permit her out each hour for approximately two weeks and notice if it is helping. As a part notice my dog was once having disorders being condo educated and I took him to the vet and it grew to become out to be a kidney/bladder illness... so perhaps if the condo coaching is not going so good name the vet!

you tell us he's 4 months and 4 years, figure it out and then buy a book on dog training like you should have done before you brought him in your house!

if you ever want to house train your dog then you really need to start crate training him. whenever you are unable to watch him closely then he should be in his crate with a chew toy. their natural instinct is not to defecate where they sleep so it's rare that a dog will defecate in their crate.
