Driving on shoulder? My guess is about $160-180.
"Writing letter to court"? You mean "trial by declaration"? That means you don't have to "go" to court, but whatever you write (and it better be convincing) will have to do, and you accept whatever the judge or commisioner hands out. How to approach it? See below.
If you actually want to set a court date, then that's up to you. In general, if you indeed did the crime, then you'll have to pay for it. You can PLEAD (note that I did NOT say argue) for a lighter sentence, there was an accident, and I was in a hurry, it was a stupid but honest mistake, Your Honor, blah blah blah blah.
At the court, you can plead for traffic school, in which case it is as if you plead "no contest".
I suggest you just call the number listed on the ticket and say "I am taking traffic school". Then you pay the ticket and admin fee, and go to traffic school. There's even some online nowadays. Get that done, turn in the certificate (by REGISTERED MAIL!) and it'll never show on your record. Good luck!

Did you think that the shoulder was a traffic lane reserved for you alone, or were you under the impression that nobody else on the road was smart enough to realize there was a big wide shoulder they could drive on?
That was a well deserved citation. Driving maneuvers like that lead to accidents. An acquaintance of mine was directing traffic at an accident scene, when somebody decided to drive down the turn lane to pass all the stopped traffic. He got run over and killed because somebody was not willing to wait.
Pay your ticket. Happy motoring.

Fines are determined by the particular court district (by county)
Writing a letter to the court does nothing
The "change to get not convicted" What does this mean?
You can minimize the cost of the ticket by explaining your circumstances to the court and hope you have a sympathetic court officer (usually not a judge but a commissioner)
You usually have to plead guilty before court to be able to go to traffic school.
You can't drive on the right shoulder to avoid traffic unless specially directed to do so by an officer or his or her designate (CSR, etc)..

it all depends on the the violation.
no i wouldn't write a letter to the court because one you don't know what jugde you will get and two the judge might not like that.
there is a chance that you will lose and have to pay the fine. i don't think you can minimze the cost of the ticket.
if you are under the age of 18 and you are driveing and if you live in amador county by sac then you will not only go traffic school but you will aslo attend the chp start smart class as well. still need advice you can e-mail me

Always remember that ignorance of the law is not an exception to the law. It is your responsibility to know the laws, and driving on the shoulder is illegal. Pay your ticket and never do it again. If they provide traffic court take it.

Let me guess.....where you had to go was more important than where the other motorists who were stuck had to go. What you did was not a mistake. You don't drive on the shoulder to pass others by mistake. I guess you think you're special. People like you who do that crap really piss me off because you end up making the situation worse. When I see someone like you driving on the shoulder, I move over to block your ***. You can wait it out just like the rest of us. When you get your courtesy notice, pay the fine and go to traffic school.

The only thing I can say is that it's never legal to drive on the shoulder even in a traffic jam, and if you did it, suck it up and pay the ticket!!! Don't even bother fighting it, you will lose.

You did the crime so you need to pay for it. Doesn't matter if you had 20 cars in front of you or 20 cars behind you.... You were the one singled out for doing wrong, and rightfully so. I would not even think of arguing that you wanted a lesser finding because others were doing the same thing. Just admit to having done wrong, apologize, and ask for supervision. You might get lucky, depending on the Judge.

Did it occur to you that the traffic jam might have been because of an accident ahead? How do you think emergency vehicles get to said accident?
Do not try to get out of this. pay your fine and whatever other punishment the court sees fit to impose. Think about what you did and try to understand why it was an incredibly selfish and dangerous thing to do.
