Those are about it.
I know from experience. My hair was so thick that nothing worked on it...I had to shave my head. It sucked, but it got rid of the lice. And my hair grew back healthier...

Try using just the lice shampoo without presoaking the hair. Lice can actually hold their breath...like fleas for up to 30 minutes...meaning a few may live even after treatment. When we worked with the red cross in the projects, we would use RID without water on some of the project's children that had lice. It worked very well.

There is a special comb for lice where the teeth are too close to each other and trap the lice when you use it. You have to comb hair from back to front and use a white cloth to gather the lice that fall off from the comb. Then you have to smash them by using the nail of your thumb. When it "clicks" it means that the lice is dead.
Follow it up by doing what the apes do. Ask somebody to groom you. When I was little my mother use to do it to me. It take agility though to catch those fast crawling creatures.

I have been through the lice battle several times with my children. I have tried all the remedies listed and one that I have not seen mentioned.
Try putting a few drops of Tea Tree Oil (herbal remedy) in their shampoo. I was skeptical at first, but have had no trouble since using this.
Hope it helps!

To be honest medication is really the only hope you have. Make sure you spray the beds and wash linens most people forget to do this and have a reoccurring problem. Its not the cheapest stuff in the world but you can buy the treatments at Wal-Mart.

try mayonaise.....
i know it sound disgusting but if you put it through your hair and then wrap the head in plastic wrap or a shower cap (leave in for 30-60 minutes)
It will help kill the lice and eggs plus....
it soothes the scalp and help with itching unlike other over the counter products

Go with the pharmacy brand killer, if you don't do a good job they come back. Wash everything in very hot water. Sheets, pillow cases any towels used... If you don't you'll have to start all over again.
good luck
sorry to hear.
