Why are you going there?
If it is to worship God, you must understand that you can worship anywhere--- with others or alone-- and God is not at all concerned with what you wear or how you look, only with the love you have in your heart.
If, on the other hand, you are going to that particular church in order to make some sort of statement (or because that is where your family worships) you must make some choices. Either go as you are, and when confronted try to enlighten people that such trivial details are totally unimportant to God. Or, if you feel it is a somewhat hopeless situation but want to please someone else by being here, conform so as not to create conflict. You can always put your earrings back in later. So what? You change your clothes daily and dress for different occasions depending on the circumstances.
Its not inappropriate... but you must consider what is your point or reason for doing what you are doing.

Depends on the church. Personally, I feel that if you believe in an omniscient God, then the earpiercing thing is already known about, so not a big deal. But, I am not a member of that congregation so I can't really say if that is appropriate or not. My guess is that the fundamentalists are sure to know exactly what God is thinking, and will be there to police your actions so not to give offence to the allmighty (who has never seen such a thing in this world of toil and strife).

You might get some odd looks from "old fashioned" and/or conservatie parishioners, but as long as you aren't trying to draw attention to yourself, I don't see why it would be inappropriate.
To me, it falls under the same umbrella as tattoos, jewelry, hats, and clothing in general. If you are at church to pray and you are dressed in a respectful manner, then you are welcome. The hard part is deciding what is respectful. I'm sorry, but if it's 105 degrees out, I'm probably going to church in a tank top and shorts or a skirt. I just try not to show too much skin. So same with the ear piercings - if you wear earrings, wear something subtle like studs.

Though some at the church may disagree, that doesn't make it inappropriate.
What would make it inappropriate is why the boy wore them: to get a reaction/ stimulate people to judge? I think that would be. If that was just the way the boy was, then it's never inappropriate to be yourself.

Some of the people will judge you. Some will ignore it. Some will ignore you. Some might be drawn to you by it.
God knows what's in your heart, and it's really only His judgment that will matter. We go to church to worship Him and to grow ourselves, and to help others to grow in the faith. Does wearing your earrings help those three goals, or hurt them?
You decide, and then do what is right.

no less so than a girl with her ears pierced but I think if he wore atrociously large earrings it would be out of order. you can be gay with out making a huge show of it. God still loves you but you do not need to try and upset others. some puritan churches do not like women to wear jewelry or make up.

Didn't ear piercing have a relationship with servants dedicated to their household masters? An awl thru the lobe, into a doorpost as a symbol?

Nope. it would be an expression of your freedom, and also saying that you are not living under the rules of such and such dude who rules your life. It's your body. Do what you want and if you are walking around with pierced ears, that will prove to you how judgemental people are NOT supposed to be. Right?

Since when did piercing your ears make you gay? I know lots of guys with lots of piercings who are straight as an arrow. And if guys shouldn't pierce their ears, I guess girls shouldn't either. What's good for the goose is good for the gander, you know.
But yeah. Nothing wrong with piercings.

I used to walk into churches wearing a full-length black trenchcoat and black make-up as well as having both ears pierced ,lip-piercings, eyebrow piercings and a septum piercing. I always got kicked out, though, I guess everybody's NOT welcome in the House of God, after all......
