It would sure be nice if the people who answered these questions knew anything about the subject.
In general, marijuana is a tranquilizer and anxiety-reliever. Some people report that, for them, it is the only medicine that helped them with things like bipolar depression and ADD. Most people report that it helps to elevate their mood -- or at least not worry about the depression so much. Others report that it can make the depression worse. Unfortunately, there are no good stats on whether it improves depression or makes it worse in most people because it is rather hard to get that kind of research approved.
The only good answer is that it depends on the individual taking them.
Alcohol is not a good thing to mix with any other drugs. It tends to have more bad reactions with more drugs in more people than anything else you can name. It also has been shown to induce or increase depression in lots of people. It is the only drug with any real association with drug-induced violence. Consider it bad news for mixing with anything.

RE:
Effexor and marijuana?
What does smoking pot do to a person when they are on 150 mg of Effexor? Does it counteract the Effexor or just make the depression worse? What about when beer is added into the mix?

Had a friend on Effexor who would be a total jerk when he smoked pot. I personally think it enhances the depression. Alcohol is a big no no. It absolutely will enhance depression and mess with the brain while on ANY antidepressant. My friend finally saw for himself how much the marijuana affected his depression and quit after being a life long smoker. Marijuana is okay for helping cope but not with antidepressants. It makes you less likely to want to do anything except smoke, eat and sleep.

Beer is a depressant, Effexor is an anti-depressant. So you are mixing oil and water, in a sense. I was on 375mg of Effexor for years and smoked pot daily. I don't think it had any effect on my Effexor, but my shrink asks every visit if I still smoke.

Marijuana isn't good for any kind of mood disorders, neither is beer - they mess with your body chemistry and wind up creating more problems - long-lasting ones - than they temporarily solve. If your prescribed meds aren't working, talk to your doctor - don't try to self-medicate.
