I think it's time to start monitoring my children on the internet. What is a good freeware package for doing this? I want to monitor the times they are on the internet as well as the sites they vist and when they are using Yahoo Messenger.

Good luck finding a FREE one, but there are many cheap ones under $100. Most offer free trial periods though.

I'm looking for the software to monitor the internet activity, finding one that's freeware is tough. If it's that important to you, you might have to shell out a few bucks.

For Yahoo Messenger, in the preferences there's an option to use conversation logging, make sure it's set to save the conversations to disk. This way you can view dates, times, and content. There are YM log viewers out there that don't require you to have the password to view the logs, where normally you would need them and be signed on the account to see them.

If they leave the Messenger signed in, setting this up will be easy to do, otherwise call them away from the computer to do something else without them signing off.

Here's one (free) program that might help you monitor:
User Logger

A free keylogger, your anti-virus is going to pick these types of programs up, just so you know, you should probably set it as an exception:
Ardamax Keylogger Lite
Ardamax Keylogger Lite is a small, freeware keylogger that captures users activity and saves it to a logfile. The logfile can be viewed as a text or web page. Use this tool to find out what is happening on your computer while your away, maintain a backup of your typed data automatically or use it to monitor your kids.

Hope that helps.

You could get a Linksys router and goto the router logs.
You enter 192.168.0.1 then click on admin then goto logs.
