I'm about 6'1" 225 lbs and I'm looking for a shoe made for people with flat feet. I had some Brooks running shoes a while back that were good. I'm looking for something to put 30-50 miles per week on.

Thanks!

It depends. Are you an overpronator? Most, but not all, flat-footed people are. If this is the case, I would reccomend the Brooks Beast or the Saucony Grid Stable for now. However, this is not how you should train for the rest of your running career.

All of our ancestors were barefoot, and by means of natural selection their proportions were made so that the most efficient way to travel on foot is without shoes. Therefore, we should be running as close to barefoot as we possibly can without cutting the crap out of our feet. Bulky trainers just promote heelstriking, the jarring from which leads to inefficiency.

To correct the inefficiencies in your mechanics caused by bulky trainers, it is best to slowly strengthen your feet until you no longer need those 14oz balls of fluff and can train in minimalist shoes (flats, Frees). Minimalists are pretty much the closest you can get to barefoot without experiencing an unbearable amount of pain cutting your feet up so they can adapt to your new way of training.

Example for easing into minimalist shoes:
I started out in a pair of Mizuno Wave Precisions. However, I started running once a week in Nike Frees. I felt slight soreness, but I eventually adapted. Then I went to twice a week. After adapting to 3 times a week, I started training full time in them. I wouldn't recommend breaking into them as quickly as I did, but I also walked around barefoot all the time, so my feet already had a decent amount of strength.

Man was meant to run barefoot, not with trainers that lift their heels much higher than their forefeet.

For flat feet and your height/weight/milage you want to stick with Brooks Beast also the Asic Gel Evolution II. You want a shoe with max cushioning and max motion control. Find out what kind of arch you have as well. Go to a specialty running store and talk to the sale people, they should know their stuff, and try out lots of different shoes.
Good luck and happy running

The Saucony Grid Shadows are good. Because your feet are flat or pronate, you need a stiffer soled running shoe.

I used to work at Finish Line and I have flat feet also, and I would say either Saucony or New Balance

I've tried all the major brands, and the best by
far is ASICS (actually Latin for "A sound mind
in a sound body)... they never advertise like
some of the "big" names, because their shoes
speak for themselves...

I suggest the Kayano series or GEL-Kinsei
