There is an "age of accountability". Only when a person is old enough to understand the gospel, and make a choice to accept or refuse it can they be sentenced to eternal damnation.
Therefore, at some point, people who died before Christ's sacrificial, redemptive death on the cross, had to hear the message after their worldly death. Some students of the Word say that the three days in which Jesus' body was in the tomb, He was in "hell" or "hades", preaching the message to the dead.

Those who died before Christ was crucified and ressurected were under the old covenant and if they obeyed those laws and kept the sacrifices as required are all ready with God. Infants that die are not accountable and will be with Christ in heaven. Those who have never heard of Christ is a good question. God's choices are not for us to question, God loves all equally

Jews were the chosen ones because they had the stone tablets from God himself. Everyone else was worshipping false idols, so they were out.
Remember, according to the bible, the people before christ had a direct relation to god (they could speak to him). Technically, they knew exactly what would happen to them, because God would let them know.
Well, for infants, I think all they have is Original Sin(TM) so they go straight to heaven. Now, I also read that they did go to Limbo, and waited to be prayed out, but I think the Pope got rid of Limbo.
From various sources, from what I understand, ignorance isn't bliss (no pun intended... oh wait, yes it was). That's why the Spanish came over to convert people - save them if you will. Otherwise, they were going to hell, and they didn't even know it.
God was a pretty brutal guy before his hippy son was born. I suspect after the massive thunder and lightning when Jesus died on Good Friday, he got a little less merciful.

All people have the opportunity for salvation through Jesus Christ - everyone. The people before Christ would have looked forward in time to redemption just as we look backward in time to redemption. How do people who do not hear about Christ Jesus get saved? God has written the truth on our hearts - people who truly seek Him will find Him. Infants do not have the mental capacity to make a decision or accept His grace - they go to be with the Lord.

It is through Christ that all people have grace. Even those that died before Christ was actually born as man, could have had faith and grace in God's eyes. So those people would be in heaven.
As for infants the same goes for them. They can still have the Grace of God in them.

Everyone who died before Jesus is waiting in death in the Biblical hell, the common grave of mankind until the time that Jehovah God would remember them and resurrect them back to life on earth after Armageddon through Jesus Christ his Son. Everyone who dies after Jesus' ransom sacrifice that provides forgiveness of sins still go to their grave to await the resurrection. The 144,000 who will serve in heaven were resurrected to heavenly life after Jehovah gave Jesus the Kingdom rule and now the remnant who are still in the earth, not many now, will be transformed in the twinkling of an eye at their death so that they can go to heaven to be with God and Jesus and those of the 144,000 who are already there. Then there are those like the Pharisees who blasphemied against the Holy Spirit and are in Gehenna and have no hope of a resurrection, they no longer exist. No one is tormented in a hell fire. Everyone that is resurrected back to life that do not know Jehovah or Jesus must be taught and given a chance to accept Jesus as their savior and do the will of God.

Most of the people who died before Christ are going to hell. The souls of infants go to heaven. Those who have never heard of Christ go to hell. God will not allow any sin in heaven. Only the blood of Jesus can cover a person's sin. God made the rules, not me; so, please do not write back to me trying to start an argument when I cannot possibly answer your questions beyond what I have just said. Thank you and God bless you.

Those who died before Christ went to the Bosom of Abraham to await His vicarious sacrifice for sin. Read the Bible. You might be surprised at how many questions it answers.

Anyone who dies dies on their own destiny and time.
No one goes to heaven or hell because of someone elses behaviour.
You do that on your own.
Teachers dont pass students on work they dont do in school. And they dont get punished for things they havent done.
God is the Teacher. And you decide where you wanna go with your own actions.
As for the children...they have no consciesnous that can cause them to go to heaven or hell...they are infantile and will go back to God in His domain.
