They are companions/spouses that men or women will have. If a person dies unmarried they will be married to a female/male spouse in heaven. Or if a woman or a man had a sinful husband/wife then they will be married off to a person in heaven. And if thye had pious and righteous spouses in this world then they will join their spouses in the next world. To a man in heaven, his wife will be the most beautiful---more beautiful than the Hoors (maidens of heaven). I am not exactly sure about the reward of 70 maidens. But a man will have slaves in heaven who will serve him.
I hope i answered you well!

The view of suicide in Islam is very similar to Christianity. There is nowhere in the Qu'ran that states that a suicide bomber will become a martyr and have 72 virgins. Unfortunately the Muslim extremists are poor, illiterate and uneducated. They are taught false doctrine and trained to carry out the will of others in a higher position of power. That is why it is so very wrong for Westerners to condemn Islam as an evil religion; it simply isn't. Islam, above all else, teaches piousness, humility and charity. The true Islam is completely non-violent. They even abstain from drinking wine and eating certain meats like pork.

No.

There is no such word in the Quran.

The word used to describe a creature in heaven that will be serving men and women is Hooori. Hooris are beautiful creatures but we dont know if theyre genderless or not.

The number 70 has been used in the olden days to represent a large number. Its just figurative speech.

As for virgins...men like to think that over in the East. It appeals to them so they make up such stories.

All religions talk about an Afterlife and the rewards that one would get for worshiping God.

Heaven should be fun, and God has given everybody who enters heaven two partners who are dedicated just for him/her ... they are creatures that their sole purpose is the pleasure of those who enter heaven.

They are NOT specific only for sexual pleasure ... they are said to be so beautiful that one would never get bored from staring at them. They talk and everything ... just imagine the perfect friend/spouse all in one :)

Whether it is Islam, or any other religion that promises heaven, Heaven has everything you've ever dreamed of ,, you'll get everything you want there.... thats the idea. So it's just that Islam talked about this reward while others maybe have not mentioned this advantage in going to heaven :)

Anyways, as for the 70 part of the story, it's not a sure thing and it's origin is not accurate. And it's supposed to be a special thing for those who die in wars while defending their country, religion from "invaders" ...
It's not a reward for blowing yourself up ... for that you go to "hell" .. suicide is forbidden in Islam.

Dr. Laura asked once from Dr. Hathout in her show if it it was true that Muslim suicide bombers each expect to be rewarded for their sacrifice by being given 72 lovely virgins with whom they can have sex forever in paradise. He answered " That is exotic folklore"

There is five passages in the Koran that promise supplies of heavenly virgins for the pleasure of Muslim men in paradise. I think the correct number is 70.
