Hello my fellow San Antonian.
Whoever made up that story didn't really think things through, huh.

It's all about free will-when you tell a little child not to touch a hot stove they don't really have a concept of what will happen when they do. What they do have is a clear cut choice to either believe that I know best and obey me or to not believe me and discover the consequences for themselves. It is the same way with Adam and Eve-they could have chosen to believe that God knew best and obeyed him . Instead, they chose to believe that God didn't know what He was talking about and that He was witholding something good from them. They were not set up-they were merely given a choice and they chose wrong. The only way that God could have totally eliminated that possibility was to make them robots, programmed to do whatever He told them. He did not do that because He wants us to have the ability to choose to have a relationship with Him.

To know what a man will do does not equate with making him do it. That would be like saying "I know this alcoholic will take a drink" is the same as "I'm MAKING this alcoholic take a drink."
Now, as to your question about the "set up." The consequences of their actions were fully explained to them, and they understood. Eve even argued with the devil, repeating God's words back to him. How can you say they "didn't understand?"
By your line of reasoning, Free Will is a "set up," because the only way to prove you have "free will" is to do something that you've been told is against the rules.
As for "making sense," it doesn't have to. The same scripture that tells us this nonsensical story also tells us "The Wisdom of God is foolishness to man." You don't have to "understand" God's motivations.
God is not interested in whether you think His plan makes sense - He's interested in whether you accept his Promise of Salvation (which comes through Christ Jesus).

Adam and Eve had a choice and made the wrong one. God did not set them up, that would be similar to saying that God tempted them in a way.
"Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:" James 1: 13
God always provides a way out, as he did with Adam and Eve. They chose not to take it.
"There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it." 1 Corinthians 10: 13

God provides us freedom of selection. He does not administration us, b/c we r his creation and he loves us, on a similar time as we live in sin. devil isn't someone certain via issues at the same time with region and gravity. he's a fallen angel, and can trip between the human and non secular dimensions, so sending him to a place like the moon does not unavoidably do something. God creates each and every thing with a purpose, like the timber to grant oxygen and supply us fruit, even nonetheless those end result have been made to grant us a call. We additionally can't exchange people's ideals, like their faith or worldviews. via taking on, and that i'm no longer saying this may be a good element, it quite is basically something our united states of america is attempting to do, i've got faith we attempt to alleviate and grab the weapons of terrorists, besides through fact the leaders, b/c with maximum companies, if u capture the chief, u confuse the team. And back, God gave us freedom of selection, through fact of this he set up those "traps," that are no longer traps in any respect; they have been testings. I even have faith that if Adam and Eve did no longer take the bait and fall, there may be one in each and every of two diverse outcomes: we'd've persevered to stay in team spirit with God, sinless and suitable, or somebody else might've been tempted via devil, that should've affected that person's family members on my own, or the entire international. persevering with directly to what u extra, God chosen Noah b/c he replaced into totally dedicated to God. If u opt to argue, u ought to learn what ur speaking against. And God is almighty, meaning he's all-powerful, omnipresent, and all understanding.

It's the lesson so many need to learn in this life. Consequences! Adam and Eve were perfect when they were first made and had perfect understanding of what God wanted and didn't want. They were tempted and fell. God understood that they were tempted. It is something that satan didn't experience...someone lying to him and tempting him. I think that is why no salvation is offered to him. God understood and deflected judgement from Adam and Eve and that is why we can recieve salvation today. If God wasn't merciful, there would be no humanity.

Think about it. Adam and Eve had only one (1) rule to obey. Do not eat from this certain tree. There was no such thing as sin. They could do anything they wanted to do-without any fear of penalty-except eat from this one tree. They deliberately disobeyed God. That is not a set up, that is pure human stupidity.

My husband and I were talking about Adam and Eve not too long ago and my husband said something that really hit me.
God gave us the beautiful gift of the freedom of choice. Because of this, he had to give us the choice to obey or disobey. Adam and Eve could have chosen to follow God's word, but they instead chose to eat the fruit from the forbidden tree.

I like to dismiss the bible as a folklore of the times, not as a guide to life for the 21st century. I'm rather curious as to why people still try to live by the guidelines of 2000 some years ago when, obviously, we now have the internet and the WHEEL.

Freedom is very broad- you may eat of ALL the fruit in the garden
Freedom has limits- But you may not eat of the fruit of the tree in the center of the garden.
The abuse of freedom engendered a multitude of generations to sin

Well, yeah.
Of course, that's not the wierdest set-up. Think about Job.
Here we have "God" and "Satan" acting like pissy siblings.
"I can make your dog bite you"
"Can not! My pet's trained better than that!"
"Oh, yeah? Wanna bet?"
"Sure. Do your worst"
And then "Satan" proceeds to torment the dog (while pretending to be "God") to try to get it to bite "God". And they are BOTH OK with this.
If the poor tormented dog had actually bitten "Satan" (while he was pretending to be "God"), whaddya think "God's" reaction would have been?
This was a no-win setup for Job.
Praise the hand that beats you, because you think it's the hand of the Alpha Male. Grovel. .
It's just sick.
Would any of us treat our dogs like that?
