Most of the time yes, it depends on the amount.

If your feeding a cat a pinch of chocolate, barely the size of your finger nail, then that usually wont do any harm unless its heavy chocolate.

Chocolate can be poisoness to cats for many reasons:

. Cats cant digest to many chemicals at a time

. Most chocolate has milk in it, which cats get deathly ill if they digest to much of it

. Chocolate has chemicals in it that aren't meant for animals to eat. These chemicals include milk, sugar, salt, choco, ect. Which can be dangorous for your cat to consume.

. Some items in the chocolate can be to hard for your cat, or to big.

For example, nuts.

Usually they break down nuts in chocolate to halves, which is usually the size of a cat kibble, but it could still be to hard or unfamiliar to your cat.

Some times the chocolate has broken down peanuts, which can be to small for your cat and cause choking.

. Caramel can also be dangorous. It could stick to your cat's insides or fur which would result in a series of barfing, shedding, hair clumps, and choking.

. Even if the chocolate is plain it still carries the same ingrediants and chemicals that can cause illness to your cat.

So techincally, 98 percent of the time chocolate can be damaging to your cat's insides and outsides by just its ingrediants and mixes.

What makes chocolate toxic, anyway?
Chocolate is made from the fruit (beans) of the cacao tree.
Theobromine, a component of chocolate, is the toxic compound in chocolate. (Caffeine is also present in chocolate, but in much smaller amounts than Theobromine.)
Theobromine's effect on the body:

Are some chocolates more toxic than others?
Yes. Unsweetened (baker's) chocolate contains 8-10 times the amount of Theobromine as milk chocolate. Semi-sweet chocolate falls roughly in between the two for Theobromine content. White chocolate contains Theobromine, but in such small amounts that Theobromine poisoning is unlikely. Caffeine is present in chocolate, but less than Theobromine.

What are the signs of toxicity?
Signs are most commonly seen within 12 hours (or less) of chocolate ingestion.

Excitement / nervousness / trembling
Vomiting / diarrhea
Excessive thirst / sometimes excessive urination (at higher levels of Theobromine toxicity)
Muscle spasms
Seizures
Coma (rare
Death (rare) -- likely due to heart rhythm abnormalities.

You cat ( and dog) can get very sick because of chocolate, because of a substance in the chocolate. It basically turns into a poisonous substance. You cat will not die, as far as I know, but it may get sick.

I don't believe so. I give my cat chocolate all the time and there isn't a thing wrong with her. I gave her some fudge just yesterday and this morning. She's spunky as ever and that's about it.

Yes, because of all the stuff in it. me personally i don't give my cats any human food because you never know whats in the food that is harmful to the cats. i want to try and keep my two cuties around for a long time.

Chocolate is for Dogs..

If your cat is getting sick it might be special- everything is highly possible.. ask you vet

I always heard that chocolate makes pets sick, but not die....perhaps consult a vet first
