Hurts like hell, looks like tawdry crap after.
What a waste of time and money to achieve a nasty infection and a vile appearance.

Yes it hurts but only for a second or two. It'll make your eyes water though! Not from pain but because of a natural bodily reaction, so don't wear heavy eye makeup!
Ignore the other negative/silly answers by the way. If you're not pierced you have no opinion about this question.
If you do decide to have it done then please look after it properly afterwards. Your piercer will tell you all about the aftercare before you have it done. Also beforehand, ask other people whose body modifications you like where they had them done as word of mouth is the best recommendation!
Yes, it's quite a big needle. It's nothing to worry about though. The more you get yourself worked up over it the worse it'll be.
oh and...NEVER EVER let anyone pierce your nose, or anything else, with a piercing gun. Those things are the culprits for most infected and 'gone wrong' piercings. The best safest way to be pierced is with a hollow needle by a professional piercer who will be more than happy to show you their autoclave and sterilising equipmemt and health certificates.
Happy piercing!
P.S. If you have a low pain threshold you'll never manage to give birth! :p (Joke!)

It is going to hurt. Not only because you have a low pain tolerance, but because there are more nerve endings in your nose than say, your ear so it will hurt a bit more than getting your ears pierced. (Although you don't have your ears pierced so you don't have that to compare it to.)
A needle is used (and don't go to someone who uses a piercing gun just because you think it will hurt less-a needle is definitely the way to go for various reasons I won't bore you with here) but it's not a huge needle. The piercer holds or clamps your nose, sticks the needle through, and then sticks the stud in. It hurts but it only lasts a few seconds. I had mine done (I had to take it out when I started martial arts training) and it didn't cause me any problems such as infection, pain, etc. afterwards. The only downside to it that I found was that I had to be extra careful to keep from snagging it on things and risking pulling it out. (For example, drying my face on a towel and having the stud get caught in it.) If you have weighed the pros and cons and want to get it done, then go for it. It's not an excruciating experience.

Of course it is going to hurt, but it is a bearable pain. The important thing is to remain calm and focused. If you are too afraid, you will likely have so much adrenaline that you will pass out.
This is not going to be the worse pain you will feel. If you like the look, you should go for it, and bring a friend so you have moral support and a hand to hold.
You should be aware that you will not start out with a cute little stud. You will have a ring because it is made surgical steel and it allows for your nose to swell and for you to clean it properly. Be sure to clean the piercing exactly how the shop tells you to and often because if you get an infection, your nose will definitely hurt.

The human body is full of nerves, many just under the skin. Ever been smacked in the nose? Hurts like an SOB, doesn't it? Your nose is very sensitive.
You have nerves and feel pain so that you don't continue to do something stupid like lay your arm in the campfire, and to teach you not to do stupid things again if you don't like pain.
Pain is nature's teacher.
So you ask if sticking a sharpened piece of steel through a sensitive part of your anatomy will hurt?
What do you think? Is it really worth it to you?

i have 2 nose rings- it will hurt for a second, then it won't hurt at all afterward. Make sure you get titanium piercing or real gold if you have metal sensitivities, or your nose could get irritated and won't heal properly. watch for signs of infection afterward. also- make sure that you have really thought it through. most jobs will not allow piercings liek this. i am fortunate that as an art teacher in a progressive elementary school that they allow it. also, it may leave a hole there forever, even if you decide to take it out.

It'll hurt like hell as it's being pierced. The pain will subside afterwards, but your nose will be sore for upwards of 2-4 months. It's not the end of the world but I won't sugar coat it... it does hurt, but it's well worth it.

The place I went to used a small needle and it did not hurt AT ALL. I was all freaked out for nothing! It's really nothing to worry about! The guy took me back in this little room to do it and I don't think I was in there even 30 seconds!
Don't be freaked out about it! Afterward you will be like, "Why was I so nervous over that!?" Good luck!

The needle is HUGE lengthwise but not thick. I didn't think is hurt at all but the blood down the back of my throat gave me the willies....I loved the way it looked but I could never get it to heal properly....it would get a little Keloid (raised red bump) about once a month but I never had any issues with my belly ring....I think ears hurt the worst because of the gun they use...it's violent...I got a stud when I first got my nose done, not a ring and it was reputable place but I jut don't think it ever would heal....

Why is everyone saying that it will look terrible? I love how they look. I want to get my nose pierced soon. From what I heard getting nervous before you get it is worse than the piercing itself, so don't freak out so much.
