Any firm fruit that can stand up to being skewered such as apples or bananas. Down below they also suggest plums. What about mango's or star fruit? Even a good firm orange slice or even kiwi fruit might be sturdy enough.
Servings: About 6
I N G R E D I E N T S
1 cups premium cocoa powder (Valrohna or Scharffen Berger), sifted
1 1/4 cups spring water
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1/4 cup corn syrup
1/2 cup plus 5 tablespoons heavy cream
5 ounces 62% Scharffen Berger (premium semi-sweet chocolate), chopped
Pound cake and fruit (such as bananas, apples, strawberries, and plums), cut into bite sized pieces
I N S T R U C T I O N S
Sift the cocoa into mixing bowl and set aside. Place the water, sugar, and corn syrup into a pot and bring to boil. Allow to simmer for 10-15 minutes until sugar solution has reduced by about 30%. Pour the cocoa powder into the solution and blend with a whisk until smooth. Return the chocolate mixture to the stove and continue cooking over medium heat. Add heavy cream, bring to boil and allow to simmer for five minutes. Remove from the heat and stir in chopped chocolate. Pour into fondue pot and keep warm.

CHOCOLATE GRAND MARNIER FONDUE:
1/2 lb. bittersweet chocolate, chopped
1/3 cup heavy cream
2 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup confectioners' sugar
2 tablespoons Grand Marnier
In a large double boiler, boil 2 cups of water over high heat. Turn heat down to low and simmer water.
Place chocolate, cream and butter in the upper part of the double boiler.
Stir the chocolate mixture until smooth. Whisk the confectioners' sugar into the mixture, then add the Grand Marnier.
Keep the water in the double boiler at a simmer and dip fresh fruit into the chocolate mixture.

The Rachael Ray show had a great recipe for chocolate fondue, and she recommended you use fresh pineapple, shortbread cookies, poundcake, and pretzel rods. I am planning on making her recipe on Christmas day. Here's the link: http://www.rachaelrayshow.com/?q=recipes/chocolate-fondue

apple slices are always good, and fairly cheap, you can always buy frozen fruits such as raspberries, etc. Also good are oreo cookies, graham cracker sticks, pound cake and angel food cake cut into cubes, marshmallows and candy canes.
