Disconnect the battery. Jack the car up at least 30" and place on good heavy duty jack stands. Remove the front and rear drive shafts. Remove the exhaust system from the head pipe to the catalytic converter. Place a transmission jack under the transmission/transfer case assembly and take the weight off the rear cross member. Unbolt the rear cross member and remove from truck. Unbolt the bell housing bolts. Withdraw the transmission/transfer case assembly from under the truck. Separate the transmission from the transfer case.

you can tell that some dont know from a hill of beans what they are saying. Put you truck on jackstands high enough to get the tranny out unbolt the the rear drive shaft ( it gonna pour lube out of the tailshaft when you pull the drive shaft) and front one. remove the transfer case. I used about 4-5 6 inch extensions on my impact to undo the bolts around the bell housing. make sure you un-do the clucth line and take out the shifter from inside the truck disconnect any elec. lines remove the cross member remove the bolts hold the tranny w/ one hand against the motor. Its not heavy just awkward i laid under it and took it out like that like bench pressing. lay the new one on your chest and slide under and press into place piece o cake I have a 365lb bench so if your a runt it may be a little tough good luck

first off youll want to find a good floor jack.this will be used in helping lower the tranny.now first youll need to unhook the speedometer and odometer from the tranny.use a haynes manual to help in identifying these.then youll need to remove the shifter.then the transfer case.then both driveshafts.then unbolt the tranny from the engine.then put the jack all the way up to the tranny just a little bit of pressure on the tranny and slide it back from the bell housing of the engine.

well if you are taking it out cause it had a leak and it has that good old wont get int ogear action,or the constant popping out of gear then follow the advice given.but just one thing,i guess if i was to do all that work.id spend the 100.00 bucks for the clutch and pressure plate too.and since i aleady had the tranny out id change it now.since you have to do all the same work yust to change it later.consider it prevantative maintainance.
