I'm driving to Montreal from Toronto at evening rush-hour. I take the 407 all the time, but never east of the 404; I see it ends north of Ajax at Brock and/or hwy 7. Should I take Brock south, or head east for 10-15 km and then hit the 401 after Whitby? Worried about traffic on the 401 ... I assume there's non after Oshawa, but I wonder if there's lots east of Brock.

Thanks!

If it is during rush hour, be sure to stay north until after Oshawa. It is really bad because it is still only 2 lanes on the 401. You could stay on hwy 7, keep going east until hwy 57 and go south to Bowmanville.

DON"T go south on Brock. Bad news construction.

In rush hour, there is tons of traffic east of Brock so definitely avoid going south at that point. You could go as far east as Ritson Rd. in Oshawa and south from there. I would avoid going down Harmony Rd. because there is a section ripped up and detoured due to construction that was supposed to end last month (November). Alternatively, you can go to Liberty St. in Bowmanville and south to the 401 from there. By then, you should be past any of the major traffic jams on the 401.
