Our boss told another co-worker and she told me. The one getting fired is in sales, but comes to the office quite often. He is going thru a lot right now in his personal life, but still makes a lot of sales. I think they are letting him go because they want to hire someone who used to work here as a salesman a long time ago. My question is: What is they right thing for me to do. I know they are going to let him go, but I don't want to get anyone in trouble since I was not supposed to know.

If you care about your job don't say anthing. Be glad that you are a confidante of the boss. This person will have to decide on their own if they will pursue legal action or anything like that. Many people have a lot of things going on in their lives. Some people let these things affect their jobs and others don't. Be supportive of your friend before and after the firing. Don't betray the confidence of your boss.

It's gonna sound rude but don't say a word to nobody, if someone professionally speaking above you has decide it there's nothing you can really do about him, although it's a ***** getting fired in this special times if you are close to this guy then have a cup of coffe together and let him get it all out (his frustations and stuff you know?), if not, just hope and wish the best for him

These bas tards always fire people right before christmas. I wish I had a dollar for everytime I heard about this sort of thing. Just be there for your friend. And if that's the reason they are firing him, encourage him to visit the local employment agency, and also file a complaint against his company for wrongful termination. He might get a lot of $ for that one.

stay out of it.u may not know the full story of y they feel they have to cut him loose-maybe he did something is is involved in something u dont even know about.maybe they will even change their mind about firing him,but if u mention it,then it gets all complicated.in any case,the manager was unproffessional and should not go around telling workers who is going to be fired.i had one manager who told everyone she wanted to fire me,when the head of the department heard she discussed me with everyone,i was given an apology and the manager was fired-and i was there 5 more years-so u never know whats gonna happen!just do ur job and avoid "office politics" like the plague-too much involvement in "personalities" is the surest way to get urself fired!!!!

I agree with everyone---don't say anything. But your boss should never have told anyone. The boss is the one who should be fired in my opinion. Your co-worker should have kept her mouth shut, too!

This isn't something that you can do anything about without getting in trouble...BUT, you might view this as a good lesson about the quality of loyalty this firm shows it's workforce and quietly start looking for a new position for yourself somewhere else.

Situations like this can be tests of company loyality for whoever was told. These comments aren't exchanged loosely and the manager will remember who was told what.

Don't say or do anything. And note that the employee who let the information out is not trustworthy, something to remember if you are ever tempted to tell her something in confidence.

This is not something you need to get involved in. Your boss could certainly learn some lessons in business ethics.

I wouldn't say nothing because if they do find out that it was you who told him and they wanna know how you found out all of you will be loosing your job. You can try to give him a hint but I wouldn't get involved in that.
