I have always tried to avoid travelling by bus and to do my shopping during teh Xmas rush, i have been using the bus.
The amount of times that the bus drivers jerk the bus and one cannot even stand with shopping is horrible.
How do the elderly do these trips?

I work in transporation so this is first hand knwledge.
1) The busses have retarder brake systems to help them slow down, as the brake is applied the retarder kicks in to slow down the bus, it helps to keep the brake wear down and also keeps the brakes from overheating. When it kicks in, it is not always smooth as it relies on a series of air valves to control the rate of application, sometimes its a bit harsh.
2) The schedules they keep force them to cut corners and acceleate and decelerate more than passengers like, when they get behind their run due to traffic and blockages, the busses clump up so the drivers lean on the throttle and brkaes more to make up time.
3) The bus has a high center of gravity, and a person standing is even higher so your balance and equillibrium is off so any movements by the vehilce are exagggerated by the fact that you are a stationary object in a moving object.
4) A good driver knows how to ease onto the brake and throttle and also anticipates the stop light changes.

Because the human body really is not made for driving so many hours everyday, especially in heavy urban traffic.
Also they need to keep on schedule and braking in urban traffic with that large a vehicle is tenuous . Best not to shop for anything breakable when traveling by bus.

Well, for one thing we have to deal with cars that won't let us out into traffic, so we have to be fairly aggressive or we'd be at the bus stop for a long time. Also, people like to park close to bus stops making it hard to get close to the curb to let passengers on and off. Buses have priority seating for the handicapped and elderly so they don't have to stand.

Tell me about it. The amount of times I have been close to barfing because of their constant jerky stop, start, actions. They go like nutters on bendy streets and then slam on the brakes just before they are about to plough into an oncoming car.

They hate themselves so much that they take it out on the rider, i watch the driver close the door in a person face just because she had turned around to say bye to her friend.

Geez, you're so right. I often ask myself like what's with these people. The other day one of them drove his bus right over an old lady. At the bus stop!!!

They couldn't care less about you. Fortunately this doesn't apply to all drivers JUST ABOUT 80% of them
