GOD describes himself as “a jealous God.” You may wonder why, since the word “jealousy” has negative connotations. Of course, God’s dominant quality is love. (1 John 4:8) Any feelings of jealousy on his part must therefore be for mankind’s good.
Man was created with the capacity to feel jealous, but mankind’s fall into sin has resulted in a distortion of jealousy. Nevertheless, human jealousy can be a force for good. It can move a person to protect a loved one from bad influences. Moreover, humans can properly show jealousy for God and his worship. (1 Kings 19:10) To convey the correct understanding of such jealousy for the Almighty, the Hebrew noun may be translated “toleration of no rivalry” toward him.—2 Kings 10:16.
An example of righteous jealousy is what occurred after the Israelites received the Law at Mount Sinai. Repeatedly, they had been warned not to worship man-made gods. God told them: “I Jehovah your God am a God exacting exclusive devotion [or, “a God who is jealous (zealous); a God not tolerating rivalry”].” (Exodus 20:5, footnote; compare Exodus 20:22, 23; 22:20; 23:13, 24, 32, 33.)

Well David, think about it this way. If you gave life to your child, and that child grows up not acknowleding you, then you'll be some what outraged. Why? You provided for that child, you gave it the necessary tools to survive, and even though you didn't meet all the child wants you didn't deprive it form it's needs. That's what God does in a nutshell to us. SO when you have people who put materailistic things before God, it angers Him. He said in one of the commandments that you shall love no other gods. And I think people think that other gods have to be these big wonders, but your car can be your god. Your girlfriend, anything that as your attetnion to the point where it's number one and it's above God. Qucik question when you wake up in the morning do you thank God for you rest and how He woke you up. If you did then you're a person that has God on your mind constantly, because it's hard to not thing of the things to do and washing the car and all of that. In the Word God wants to be your first and only source. Meaning do not lean on things and other people but Him. So once we become dependent on God and nto things, we won't disappoint God. Jealous is a deeper word than the english meaning. *****I hope that helped a little****

My pal, for what reason might God probably be jealous? God has each and all the flexibility, God is clever, God is the Almighty. God is in comparison to creation, God is divine, not an insignificant person. God is: 'AL-QUDDOOS' ~The Holy, the only that is organic from any imperfection. AL-MUTAKABBIR ~ The Majestic, the only that is obvious from the attributes of the creatures and from comparable to them. AL-WAHHAAB ~ The Bestower, the only that is beneficiant in giving lots with none return. ASH-SHAKOOR ~ The grateful, The Appreciative, the only that supplies a great variety of reward for slightly obedience. AL-KAREEM ~ The beneficiant One, The Bountiful, The Gracious, the only that is attributed with greatness of ability and Glory of status. AL-WADOOD ~ The Loving, the only that loves His believing slaves and His believing slaves love Him. AL-MUGHNI ~The Enricher, the only that satisfies the purposes of the creatures.

God was speaking to the Israelites. They were his chosen people and in a covenant relationship with him, so he expected exclusive devotion. So he was a "Jealous" God in that he expected them to worship him alone and not the false Gods around them. Jealous also means protective.

My God is a jealous God. He created us to serve Him, not to serve and worship idols. God created cows, trees, stones, the sun and the moon and the stars, etc. Why should we worship the created and not the creator?

He's jealous of other gods. He has an inferiority complex regarding them, since they're mostly better than him.
