This depends slightly on the wine and on your tastes. many answers here seem to be missing the question. As I understand it, you are not asking if you should chill a red wine to serve it, only if you CAN chill it to preserve it.
Long answer short, if you chill a wine, you slow down the oxidative process which will make it go off, thus extending the life of the wine, and since you enjoy the warm feeling that a bottle and a half of wine gives you probably as much as the flavor, go ahead! It won't make you sick or go really bad in 24 hours.
Some extremely robust wines can be left out without much change in their flavor for up to 24 hours, but as these wines tend to be REALLY expensive, I don't think that is what we are talking about. However, if you are a snobby wine snob, or snobby wine snob wanna-be, the flavor will definitely change after being exposed to oxygen for a day or two. So, as long as you don't tell Robert Parker that you are going to do it, I say, Have At!

I could repeat the millions of things that have been said already about storage of opened wine, but that would just be redundant. Here's what they missed: Although wine should never be expected to have the same flavor as it did before being recorked, you need to look at the varietal your are drinking. For instance, if you were speaking of a chianti or zinfandel, you would be losing alot of that dry, oaky flavor that makes it that type of wine. In your case, you have a pinot noir, the lightest of the red wine varietals. You have an aromatic, fruity wine that will begin to lose it's sweetness. My suggestion to you is if you absolutly cannot finish a bottle of wine in one sitting (not by yourself, just if you have leftover), the best thing to do is bite the bullet and use it for a spicy arriabita tomato sauce or beef stew the next night.

Your supposed to drink it! You should re-cork the wine if your not going to drink the rest do to the the wonderful little fruit flies that love to breed inside open wine bottles, as far as refrigeration, white yes, red no.

Wine preserving aerosols such as "Private Preserve" are available. They essentially force out the oxygen and replace it with preserving "agents". A few sprays and a quick re-corking will keep the wine for a few days, however even with the spray, the life-span of uncorked wine is extremely limited, so drink ASAP.

Some wines are served chilled, others are served at room temperature. If it is a cheap fruity wine then you probably want to refrigerate it.
If it is a red wine then you serve it at room temperature. The alcohol will keep it from going bad until you are finished with it, unless you rarely drink it.

I am guessing you mean after you have had all you want out of the bottle at that moment. Yes re-cork or use something else if the cork is messed up and refrigerate.

if the wine was chilled when you opened it, chilled it afterwards. if not, then don't. i usually only drink reds, and in my experience you usually want to keep its temperature as constant as possible, through storage to empty bottle. drastic changes in tempurature (chilling a rm temp red, for example) change the taste of the wine.

With white wine you're traditionally meabnt to chill it red wine at room temp.
