If you turned off your electricity what do you propose will power your fridge and freezer? I assume you have one and don't want to defrost it over night every night? Do you not use an alarm clock or perhaps get up in the night to use the toilet and sometimes switch a light on? Do you want to have to reset your clocks etc on tvs/dvd players/ hi-fi's every day to save 10 pence? Because you will save pennies, that is all, unless you usually go to bed and leave everything switched on.

Remember you only pay for the electricity you use. So switch everything non-essential off if you want to save money but don't turn the whole mains off.

If you are referring to individual items rather than electricity as a whole (your question is not quite clear) then do as suggestion 1 and switch it off by hand or buy some timer plugs from B&Q.

I agree with E=MC2 but would add that you disconnect (unplug) any battery chargers as they use power even if the item i.e. phone, flashlight etc. are not being charged. Also, TVs and computers are drawing power all the time even when "off" as well as any coffee pots or toasters with LEDs or clock/timers. Don't forget your heat and air conditioner also run at night so if you cut power you lose environmental control and it would cost you more to heat or cool after a shutdown to bring you to the set temperatures. Instead, lower the heat or AC thermostat at night.

The whole house or one plug in device, for a plug with flex lead, any timer plug will fit between socket and device, whole house there isn't one.
