I suggest you use the Reynolds foil wrap where the one side is "no stick", it works for EVERYTHING....

Wax paper can be tricky - I bake 30+ pumpkin rolls between Thanksgiving & Christmas, definitly use parchment paper.

Line your pan with parchment, spray with cooking spray & bake as usual. When finished I don't use a towel or powdered sugar, I just roll up the cake in the parchment. Wait about 45 min to 1 hour to unroll. If you wait too long it will stick no matter what paper you use.

What I like about doing it that way is that the cake doesn't get that sticky, sickly, sweet taste that too much powdered sugar causes.
Good luck!

try dusting the buttered wax paper with a little of your dry cake batter first- reserve some before you mix the cake & after you dust the lining just put the rest back into the bowl & mix away. YOu can also use flour but that tends to leave a "residue" on the outside of the cake.

i never used wax paper, just grease and flour the pan. maybe you need a new pan, things always come out easier in a new pan.

Use a butter knife when you flip the wax over if it is tough to get in some places.
