If you would like a piercing you should get one. But you need to be prepared to take care of it using the methods the tattoo shop recommends.
While a navel piercing is generally one of your less painful options, it is also one of the more filthy places in your body. You need to clean it properly several times a day as it heals and work to keep it from getting infected. While it is healing, you will also need to make sure you do not wear any clothes that will rub up against the piercing or materials that will irritate it. After the healing stage, a piercing is relatively low maintenance .
When you go to a shop, do not be afraid to ask to see the sterilization room. It should be in perfect condition, with nothing other than sterilization equipment in it. If anything looks shady (dirty), look for another place. Quality should be what you are shopping for not price. When you buy new jewelry for it, get high quality surgical steel to keep your piercing healthy and happy... not some $7 piece of crap you find at a gift shop.
Hope this helps.

If you have to ask, then probably not. It also depends on how old you are, whether or not you're planning on getting pregnant any time soon and if you've thought it through or if it's just something you want to get on a whim.
I mentioned how old you are as most places will NOT pierce anyone underage unless you have a parent or guardian with you who can sign the consent form for you, and those that will are most definitely not worth going to!
The pregnancy thing is obvious! You won't be able to keep the piercing in if you get pregnant!
The whim is just so you know for sure that this is what you want to do. As I said before, if you have to ask, you're not ready. Also, would you really do something just because a load of strangers told you to?
If you do decide to go ahead, please go to a reputable place. Ask people you see with body modifications that you like where they went to have them done. Word of mouth is always best for a referral! Also, please look after it properly after you've had it done. It can be a pain to have to wash and clean a piercing every day and night when all you want to do is fall into bed, but if you look after it it'll not only look a lot better but also heal better.
So decide for yourself if you want one, and happy piercing if you do!

I had mine done when I was twenty. It was quite a hit with my multitude of gentleman admirers;) The actual piercing is painful, but only for a second. It did take forever (sixish months) to totally heal, even with taking very good care of it. I got sick of it earlier this year and took it out, and although the hole healed within a week or so (this is a problem I have had with all piercings, your mileage may vary), I still have a little brown scar, and probably will for a long time.
If you get it done, go to a reliable, licensed place. I suggest you don't get a ring for your first piercing... get a barbell. I think the ring is why mine took so long to heal.

I had mine done at the age of 27 (I just turned 30). I did it for me. I don't wear short tops but I do wear a bikini and I do work out and have no problems there. I love it. It took a good 6-7 months to heal and only after a good, expensive plaitnum and crystal ring from Nordstroms. I couldn't get it to heal with any other piece of jewelry so be aware of that and like someone else said, I made the mistake of "overcleaning" it...

Depends on your age, really. I had mine done when I was 13.
Bad idea.
I wasn't all that responsible when it came to cleaning it, and I went swimming with it in. Eek.
Got majorly infected and now i have a scar there that'll never go away.
If you are willing to stay outta the pools for a year, clean it REALLY good, and listen to all what your piercer tells you,
then yes, go for it :]
(And don't believe the people who say it's mighty painful and you'll pass out; They're fibbing as it's just like a regular piercing; it hurts afterwards more than it does getting it done!)

I got mine pierced when I was 18. I'm now 24 and tired of it. I just don't show off my stomach and there's really no point. I took it out about a month ago and I think I'll always have a hole, or a scar that looks like a hole. If you can live with always having a mark on your stomach, go ahead. You can always take it out.

A lot of my friends have theirs done. I don't really have a problem with it, although I think when you're older and pregnant, it will swell up and *COULD* cause complications with pregnancy. Also, it is a lot more likely that belly button piercings will get infected. Also, it never closes back up. Even if you take it out, you will be left with a scar for life. I'm pretty sure that you're going to hate it sometime in life, and will to take it out, and then regret that you ever got it done.
