To train my dog, I made him sit before I pet him, gave him treats, or even recognized him. I made him realize that jumping on me was a negative behavior and that sitting and laying down was rewarded. When he jumped, I also placed my knee in front of my body. That way, when he jumped on me, he jumped into my knee. Though it does not hurt the dog, it surprises them. Notice that I did not shove my dog with my knee or knee or kick him. I let him run into my knee.

Keep the dog on a lead when people are approaching. Yank, release and say NO firmly. The dog will get the message at about age two. Labs calm down about then.

Training is the answer. I like the answer about keeping the dog on the lead. Plus, when the dog does jump up tell the person to raise their leg up (don't kick the dog, but shoo it off with their knee) or move him away with their body. If you reach down with your hands to remove the dog he will think you are playing with him and he'll just keep on jumping.

So many owners have this problem. They teach the puppy that it is ok . When he gets larger it becomes a problem. Now you will have to untrain him. You can correct him like his mother corrects him .She takes the puppies muzzle in her mouth and applies a bite pressure .She seems to know just how much.
Cup Your open hand around his muzzle and apply pressure at the same time say No When he associates this with his action he will stop . Have patience it may take several corrections.Works Wonders.

Anytiime he tries to jump up on anyone advise them to put there knee up in front of them - it will deter the dog from jumping. I am not saying to knee the dog - just lift their knee up to block the dog from getting close enough.

be consistant and make him sit stay when this is learned it should be no problem. Also the leash is also good but he doesn't learn the sit stay that way and will not get the message that it is related to the not jumping.

Train them to sit/stay. They can't jump and sit at the same time.
