Try asking them not to knock around so much when taking showers, etc. If possible, put your bed in a different room. Someone suggested cork board or hanging a heavy rug/tapestry on the wall... that might work as well. If all else fails, strike back and make just as much noise as they do... bounce a basketball off the wall, stomp around some. They may take the hint and tone it down a little.

I have the problem too and my noises are more frequent and long term. One neighbor has a giant plasma tv and my wall vibrates from the bass in the volumn which he refuses to turn down although I have complained to the landlords 6 times! It gives me headaches. I also use my headphones and music to filter the commotion. I can't move because there's no other place where the rent is $350 a month. But, you have that alternative of course. I would question the landlord about the problem too and maybe they have a more practical solution.

My friend hung blankets on her walls so she wouldn't hear her neighbors. It helped a lot but didn't eliminate all noise. I think hearing your neighbors is expected when living in an apartment. How about writing an anonymous note and put it under the door. Don't threaten them, just ask them to keep it down.

If life gives you cardboard walls, make a kung-fu movie!
I used to have a pair of the earphones that wrap around your ears (rather than sit on top or inside) they kept the sound out pretty well when i was listening to music, they weren't even sound canceling. also talk to the landlord, see if he can quiet things down.

Talk to the land lord about sound proofing. If they won't do anything then put up foam or cork and maybe some fabric. Also, talk to the neighbors about keeping it down.

Cover the wall near your headboard with cork tiles. Cork is a natural sound isolator.

well egg-cartons are like sound proofing... what I did once in my apartment bedroom was lined the walls with egg cartons (cardboard not styrafoam) and tacked up a sheet over them to make like a wallpaper look.... it kept the sound down about 80% other than that move

You can put cork tile on the wall. It filters sound pretty good. They often us it in recording studios. I think it's like $3/ sq ft though
