I have GERD and I've been having excruciating heartburn lately, despite being on Nexium 40mg 2xday, and eliminating all food/drink triggers from my diet. I've tried the usual dairy/milk to help ease the pain, but nothing works. At this point, I am taking pepto bismol, which isn't very effective, either. I've also tried other acid-reducers (mylanta, etc.) to no avail. What can I do to beat the pain? I am having an endoscopy done at the end of January to help figure out what's going on ... just trying to make things as comfortable as possible until then. Thank you!

This tastes terrible, but I know it works...I had the worst case of heartburn I'd ever had in my life last summer while visiting my parents.
My dad has heartburn all the time, and he told me to drink vinegar.
Just pour about 1/4 to 1/2 a coffee cup of straight vinegar, and drink it FAST (chug it!) In just a few minutes, you'll feel fine!
It upset my stomach at first for about 10 min. but then I felt great.
** good luck!

Honestly,I believe that the meds you are taking only make your GERD worse. Sure, it may make it temporarily feel better, only to make it come back worse. Have you tried baking soda? Just mix a teaspoon with water and drink. Apple cider vinegar with mother also helps.( look in the organic aisle.) Take a few small sips at a time. This burns for a minute or two, but the heartburn goes away almost immediately after. Eating smaller meals a few hours apart may also help. I have read that heartburn is actually caused by not having enough acid, not too much of it. Please try the natural cures before ever taking prescription drugs. They really do work.

I rarely get heartburn, but Tums is what works for me - almost instantly. It's also a great way to get a little extra calcium in my diet. Hope this helps, but it certainly can't hurt.

Nexium works great but it takes a few days for it to start working.. I ssuffer from acid reflux adn I know the pain you are talkign about. I use to get it so bad I would cry thinking i was having a heart attack. Just give it time it will start working . My sister takes Pariet for her heartburn it works the same as Nexium.

Spoiled is right. apple cider vinegar works for me. It burns like hell going down, but within 10 minutes I am fine.

You need to normalize the acid flow, not reduce it!
