I sleep for 6-7 hours a day. Despite that I feel sleepy in the afternoons, no matter what I am doing, whether it is reading, or working in the Computer. It feels as if I havent slept for "Years on the trot" despite getting sufficient sleep at night.

As a result, my work schedule slips considerably.

I have the same problem, and I know the exact cause. I don't get enough sleep at night. Give yourself time to sleep a full 8 hours. And don't eat a heavy lunch. A large meal generally makes a person sleepy. Try going to bed earlier and eat a balanced diet. I should be taking that advice, too.

6-7 hours of sleep may not be enough for you. You may need the full 8 hours of sleep or more at night that is recommended. Also be sure to eat a lunch that is light in carbs as the carbs turn directly into glucose causing a rise in your blood sugar and if you didn't eat enough protein with all the carbs your blood sugar then crashes sharply causing low blood sugar. Be sure to eat a high protein snack mid afternoon too to help keep your blood sugar level. Try getting a full 8-9 hours of sleep at night for a couple weeks too though to see if this helps.

Sleep Apnea is a disorder where you snore, profusely, and it causes your airways to actually cut off, and you interrupt the sleep pattern that makes for a restful sleep. This sleep pattern is referred to Rapid Eye Movement, and its the time in between just falling asleep and dreaming. Whether you believe it or not, the average dream lasts between 2 and 3 minutes, and in between the actual dream phases you have a state of unconsiousness and thats where you get your actual sleep. ( you know recharging your body's energy).

So to calculate it all out you take about 20 minutes to 45 minutes to fall asleep, then you have waves of about 5 minutes of actual sleep that make you rested, so if you say you sleep 6-7 hours, a night thats actually 25-40 minutes per hour you are unconsious, and that adds up to 3.75-5.68 hours that you are actually sleeping.

That could be the reason.

Believe it or not, your diet. Drink lots of water and have small meals throughout the day - I generally have a small breakfast, a cup of almonds at about 10, a decent lunch, and then another snack at about 3. Sometimes, I will have a cup of coffee right after lunch. Doing this keeps your metabolism at a level rate throughout the day and reduces the afternoon slump associated with digesting a heavy or large lunch.

6-7 hours is not enough sleep, try to get at least 8 at night and don't over eat at lunch. Also cut back on the caffeine in the mornings so you do not crash in the afternoon.

sorry-there is no cure-except a nap !!!! it is part of the body's natural circadian rhythmn to experience waves of sleepiness in mid-afternoon.some cultures wisely incorporated the "siesta" into their daily routines to harmonise with this natural rhythmn.in manhatten,for example,some businesses are starting to catch on and now have 20-minute "nap rooms" so that workers can revive their lagging productivity-hard to work when u are fighting sleepiness! i used to lock my office and sleep for half an hour,or sleep in my car during lunch break.u can try coffee,but u qiuckly grow used to the caffeine,and it doesnt work.good luck,i know how u feel !!!!

I get the same thing and have been to thedr. countless times and all i am told is that i need to ose weight and that i am depressed.....which I am not! I find at least 8 hours (if not 9) of sleep and keeping consistant in your schedule and being active help ALOT! Good luck!

it's quite normal.doctors recommend a little nap immediately
after lunch,if you are in an office of course you can't do that,so
if you have an hour lunch break,half an hour is enough to eat
then just put your head back,raise your legs ,close your eyes.
or or,eat very very lightly at noon.and have a strong coffee,eat chocolate.
