It is illegal. However, most companies spend their time taking down people who are sharing TONS of their software with the whole world. They don't typically bust people who download a thing or two. It's like drugs, they want to catch the dealers the most.
Though, that might change at any moment. A company could decide to invest a great deal of resources into catching individuals with pirated copies.
It won't be general law enforcement that comes after you. It will be you, getting sued, by the company.

I have used limewire in the past too, among several other p2p programs. I relied upon Napster before they were sued and shut down. I have never been concerned about the authorities breaking down my door, even if may be illegal. I also take several precautions to avoid others from tampering with my system. You have to in this day & age, with hackers and the authorities and bad programing of the p2p programs.
The precautions you MUST be aware of is -
1. Make sure your limewire only has access to one specific folder, and not anything with personal info in it. We had, I think it was kazaa or bearshare, and it acessed everything important to us!!! I also used to remove download items to another folder or even another harddrive, so any authorities cannot get into my download folder and use it against me. As far as limewire is concerned, make sure you leave at least one item in your download folder, so that you're not considered a freeloader.
2. Scan EVERYthing before you open it! Downloaded programs are the worst for viruses! You say you have a great security system - so make sure you use it everytime!
3. Some p2p have attached programs/spyware. Namely Gator or Shop at Home (SAH). Check your add/remove programs and program files and make sure when you installed limewire, (or any otehr p2p) it DID NOT install anything else!!! That's another way "they" keep an eye on you!
This isn't just for your answer, this is info that anyone wanting to answer this should know. I'm sorry if it is mainly a security-based answer, but it is info you should know.
Good luck with that, and have a great Christmas, and an even better New Years!

I don't know what Limewire is but if you're downloading copyrighted material like songs/movies or full versions of software like the aforementioned System Mechanic, the answer is yes: illegal.
Your next question: will they blast through the door and handcuff you the next day? No, absolutely not. If so, I would have been handcuffed at least once a month since 1996. But if you're that worried about it though, maybe you shouldn't do it.

1 there is compyright issues with media or programs downloaded, You may notice that there is disclaimers so you know you take responsibilty.
2 Is veeeery unlikely you will get any trouble from doing this, if thats what you are worried about. I know nearly all the progs I download come with keygens or password type things, and It did occur to me wether tere was some tracking system. but so far so good, 6 years plus, no doors kicked down.
3 Maybe u like me you found limewire made you computer go slow, if so try bitlord or something similar involving bittorrents.
downloads are informed rated easier to find. try it you might like it.

I am not sure of exactly how serious of a "crime" it is taken as, but I do think it is illegal.
If you go buy a cd, and put it in your shared files, and others can then download that album from your computer, they now have that album for free. That is illegal and costs record companies tons of money.
Again, I don't know if anyone will bust down your door, but I do know people have been prosecuted in the past for downloading music they should have had to pay for.
Hope this helps.

It depends what you download, but it sounds like you downloaded the full version of a program for free. That IS illegal. You CAN be prosecuted, but you probably won't. I can't make any guarantees.

Only if the material is copyrighted. Most of it is, so illegal would be an appropriate word. It's also a good place to download your favorite virus/worm/trojan horse. Have fun!
P.S. I am not joking about falsely named files that are really malware........

My buddy has reported that he had his hard rigidity bumped off reason he used lime cord lots. Do i understand if hes telling the reality no, however the clarification why it quite is illegitimate is of course pirating. in case you made a action picture and you had maximum of persons purchase then they gave it away for loose might you be satisfied? It basically style of like that. Its a sharing community relatively you upload if somebody famous your document they connect on your comp relatively and receive the document. Thats why its no longer that risk-free to apply.
