A little history here...my bf and I have been dating 9 months and the L word entered the picture a long time ago. But he has always felt uncomfortable saying it because it is associated with bad memories (ie his ex would repeatedly say it to him on the phone while banging another guy..with his daughter in the next room no less) So we have agreed to try and come up with another saying...sort of code for I love you...until he can associate those words with the feelings of the security and happiness that we share. Any ideas?

Just try not to think about the bad things that went on in the past and come out and say i love you if you and him really mean it there should be no problem. Hes starting over let go of the past and begin with the new

how about "I heart you." kinda lame, but it gets the point across. You could also try I love you in a different language, like Italian, French, etc. There are many sites on the internet that can give you translations. Good luck!

I had an ex who was like this and we used the words "elephant juice". Ok it sounds like some bad animal p0rn film bad but if you don't actually say it out loud, the shape of your mouth moving looks like "I love you" but without actually saying it.

Try it and you will get the idea. It might mean it gives him time to work up to saying the real thing.

(btw how could she say it while banging, that is some concentration or a really bad time for her?)

Then say when ur in his presence, "I hate you" with a giggle and plant a take charge kiss on his lips with an assuring hold/hug that you're not giving up "loving" him.

-Do something like write his name (or initials) in side a hearts or have tiny hearts floating around his name.
-A kiss is a way of saying I love you.
-Look him straight in the eye and say I love you.

WOW!!! THAT'S SOME SERIOUS SCARRING!! I would recommend saying it in deaf sign language communication. The sign for it to simply extend your thumb, index finger, and pinky, while keeping the other two fingers in.

It's just a word, the meaning behind it is what counts.

He needs to get over it, he seems narcissistic.
