I had light ash laminate floors put in about two years ago. They're still in great shape - but they've lost the sheen they had when new. Is there anything that replaces that shine? Or is the dullness just a fact of life with laminates?

Ok, I don't know if this will help you. This is what we did. We had a similar problem that the floor just seemed to get dull and lifeless over the years no matter what clearer we used. Our's are still in great shape but the damn shine was gone. And we missed that shine.
We waxed them. We put layers and layers of a professional grade wax. I know, laminate floor you are not suppose to have to wax them. But the shine is back, better than ever.
Our friends tired 10 layers of varathan over theirs. You paractially needed sunglasses to go over there. With the wax, we will have to redo it every so many years. But the varathan gets pitted and scratched up and will need the top layers sanded off to redo. Both floors are still shiny and we haven't had to touch up yet. Its been 3 years. Hope this helps.

Mop with plain hot water and then take two hand towels and "skate" around the floor. More than likely you have some sort of left over residue from previous moppings and the only way to get it off is plain water and wiping with dry towels. You may have to do it a couple of times, but it will come off eventually. I've also found that the Quickie string mops leave fewer streaks than any other type mop I've used. After you've cleaned off whatever is causing the streaks, make sure you sweep or vacuum the floor really well before mopping again and don't use anything but plain water or water with a little vinegar to mop. Everything else seems to streak or cloud the laminate flooring.

I often counsel my clients to use Mop and shine or even better, Future wax. I also do this to hard wood floors before selling a house. It works.

with a laminate there is not much you can do. If it is a semi solid laminate you could sand it down and re-varnish it.
