Hi there,

I currently live in England, and was born here, but am seriously thinking of emigrating to Canada. I was just wondering whether it's really tough or do you think I'd stand a reasonable chance.

I did the test based on the fact that you have to have 60-odd points to get through, and just about scraped through, but this total could go up.

I don't have a degree, only college qualifications, and haven't got anything amazing to offer e.g. brain surgeon etc, but I'd love to move to somewhere like Edmonton.

Do you think I stand a chance or would I have to effectively go back to college/uni to even think about it?

Thanks.

Edmonton is a nice town but it has the highest crime rate in Canada.

There are however amazing job opportunities in Alberta.
My suggestion is that you directly address your thoughts to people who are offering jobs and see what kind of feedback you get. You may also consider putting your questions directly to job placement companies.

If you want a job that pays a half-decent wage, you might want to try to contact television cable operators in the geographical area that you want to move. Many positions require only high school and offer on the job training. Make sure you have a significant offer and are ready to start work as soon as you come. There is no use coming over and looking for work as the process can be pretty burdensome.

Finally, if you have the opportunity to go back to school in Britain, I would suggest that you do that. You will be passing up a tremendous opportunity that you will indeed regret for the rest of your life.

Sounds like you have it all in hand Brother, and we are going though a real boom period for jobs in the West (Alberta and BC), so I don't think you should have a problem. Edmonton is nice, but be prepared for some cold winters! Lots of jobs in Edmonton as well as Calgary, and if you want to work really hard and make lots of money, you could go North and work in the Oil and Gas industry, where they can't get enough people to work there. Good Luck, and I hope you make it, as this is a great Country, and I believe you would be welcome here.

I think you have a very good chance of getting into Canada - Canadian Immigration LOVES applicants from England!! Have you ever been here before - Edmonton, specifically?? You do know it gets a smidge chilly here in the winter, right?
