A true Gentelman will have several defining characteristics, none more important that honor and integrity.

If you can find a man that lives by a code of honor and integrity then look for the complimenting ones like compassion and understanding.

If you really find this man you are looking at a saint and he will be afraid to touch you for fear of compromising his virtue.

Other women out there will go the total opposite route, get a real man someone who takes what he wants and makes no qualms about iut.

So it all depends on what you are looking for in a man, there seems to be a woman for everyman on this planet.

A man should be protective of his lady and children.
A man should be mature.
A man should know right from wrong (and follow the right).
A man should be faithful and loyal.
A man should care about his world.
A man should respect others, and himself.
A man should know when he can't win a fight.
A man should know when he CAN win a fight. :)
A man should not be weak to doing drugs or being abusive.

...Hmm, that's all I got for now. That's a wee bit idealistic, but its what I would love to see in a man...

a gentle man is a person that you should always be able to count on to help you with your physical and personal needs. He should always be the one that will open the door for you when ever you want to go out or in, Tell you nice things, just to make you smile, speak to you in a tone, that lets you know he respects you, and lastly, he would be able to understand when you need your space or need his company, with out getting mad, or think that your trying to control him.
